Is it the pulley or the gear? The gear has a washer on each side, and a key. The pulley just bolts on afterward. Won't the gear slide on all the way?

yea, the gear. I have the washer on the back side of it, and the key is built into it. the other woodruff key goes on when you install the pulley. I can't get the gear on any further than to show 1/4" of the end of the crank. I tried putting the pulley on and bolting it down to force it down...didnt work...I dont want to strip out my crank... and I also tried beating the expletive out of it.

Is the washer on the correct way? You could try heating the crank, but don't ruin the crank seal. It should just slide on without much effort. Is one side of the gear supposed to point toward the block, or does it fit both ways?

Is it the right gear for the crank?

i really smiled after reading this. Im really happy that you haven't given up on EF's!

Also, from what bart has told me is the kacepts kit sucks for EFs, and its better to do your own shift box, But that is if they haven't came out with an EF specific kit now.

Gosh i haven't been on k20a.org in awhile, its time to start reading more..

various resources locally give me access to a sheetmetal break and a multitude of other machining tools. some basic measurements of the karcepts box i have here in hand for the eg i am doing will be taken so i can base one for an ef off of it when the time comes. of course if karcepts comes out with an ef/da specific one by that time i will just buy that one as the trial and error would be frustrating and time consuming. buying and installing an off the shelf piece is always a simpler solution. i really like his alternator relocator setup and some of his other basic brackets. i figure between his stuff and the random machine shops and other various fab shops in the area that i have friends working at or friends' family managing i could accomplish all of the fitment oriented stuff pretty easily. i just need to keep an eye out for a teal unmolested hatch. there are 2 around town that i have had my eye on for a while just waiting for a for sale sign to go in the window on them...hopefully it happens after the fall 08 semester when my wife graduates...then i will be allowed to buy a chunk of steel to occupy the garage.

on another note i may start stockpiling parts now...trade off some of the crap i have sitting around and slowly aquire swap stuff. through my issue with the avid mounts on the eg a rep from avid contacted me and is making everything right including help with "future purchases". i think i may get a set of the ef k mounts from them that jason su prototyped on his crx. i want to see them installed in person first though to see what i think...thus my trip saturday morning to the chicago burbs to visit jason and brandon at suja1.

i keep running on about this and it isn't even something i can do for at least a year and a half but i really like the idea of it and am thoroughly impressed with the modular design of the newer engines, etc. piece by piece i guess.
give it time. i'll be back. i think being broke and getting her through school right now is one of the best things to happen though, it keeps me from pissing away money. and by the time we can afford to have a project car again the price on kswaps should have come down drastically and some of the other things like the alternator relocate and so on will be on the used market from guys who blew their **** up. because the truth is i don't want to put 12k into an ef if i can do it for 6k.

See, i thought without modding it alot, you couldnt even run a console? I want everything stock-ish. Bart's Ep3 style shifter is super cool, but i want a stock look. Hopefully bart doesnt move before i do it so i can have his help lol

What are those mirrors? The ones with that extra mounting-base-thingie between the door and the mirror? I've seen "spoon" mirrors without that part, but I like it better with it there.

Do it. Be patient, it will happen. For as simple as these projects are, look at how long mine is taking. It's driven all by the flow of money. The k20/EF swap is the only badass swap left. I think in a few years when all the quirks are worked out and the cost comes down, that's my next move.

Do what I'm doing. Spend the money on the go fast stuff, not on the bumper and hood and stupid **** like that.

What kind of whp numbers does a stock k20 put to the wheels, assuming some type of header, intake and a decent exhaust?
