it was a small percentage, and yes, toyota is dealing with it accordingly. but like any new model car let teh quirks be worked out before buying. if i were in the market for a truck i would be all about a duramax silverado. the only one out of numerous friend's families trucks and work vehicles that are duramax's there has only been one that had any type of mechanical failure. and that was once it had approx 700hp and 1100tq, then the allison trans gave up. returned it to stock and got it replaced.
my opinion at this point since i haven't seen a new tundra fare a winter yet.

ya i think it goes with having the firstyear out model. I had the BMW 3-series when the E46 body style came out in 99-00. There was recalls like crazy. ECU, thermostat, other sensor. Then the seat belt sensor on drivers and passgr were all screwed up, had to get them replaced 3 times each. Serpentine belt had to be replaced super early, like 28K miles. I wasnt used to that since most Honda belts and even other cars didnt need replacing until 50K miles or so.

What about the new Accord? I love them! It sucks though that the k24 version doesn't have an option of a manual.

Maybe i'm just old school, but Im not into the newer Civics and RSXs much.
The engines I like(K-series), but I just cant see myself driving a newer civic or RSX.

keep in mind, you own 2 EFs. so please explain what 'newer' cars are.

I've got to find the lawsuit with info about this video, but this guy took the video to prove his point of the duramax overheating for his lawsuit.

I'll take a Ford or Dodge ANYDAY over the Chevy, but when Toyota comes out with a diesel, I'll wait a few months and I'm jumping on it.

i have only experienced trans problems with older models than that.
i did work for honda for 4 years during 2002-2006. my fiance's mom has an 07 accord, and yeah its my only experience with newer than an 06... but so far, so good. she's had it for a year. only needing oil changes so far.

who's to say that the dodge wasnt overheating too?
the guy was towing at over 70MPH in extremely high heat too... i dont think his little video proved anything.
that trailer that he is using is a little extreme for towing a crx too.

Who's to say anything about anything? However, his video did prove that his truck could not tow a load within the trucks rated tow limits at highway speeds, going up-hill, without overheating...all variables. Even if you took the independent variable of the dodge diesel out of the experiment, it still doesn't negate the fact the Chevy just couldn't perform.
We could argue vehicle manufacturers all night long, but it all comes down to personal experience. I wouldn't buy the Chevy, not for the lawsuit against their diesels, but because my personal experiences have led me to believe they are piles of sh*t.

personal experience/preference for sure. my family for decades has used chevy diesels as farm trucks and will continue. nothing says solid truck in my opinion like a truck pulling farm equipment that weighs more than the "suggested" towing capacity with ease. but that could just be dumb luck for 3 decades.
the ford diesels are crap. shitcanning glow plug relays at random, injectors shutting down constantly and brake calipers that hang up. this is personal experience as well since i have to work on them. my deal with ford products is "don't **** where you eat".
as far as dodge, i am indifferent. i really wish they could build a front end that would last more than one winter of plowing or 20k miles. the powerplant is good though.
if/when toyota brings a diesel over it will be a good thing. it least it will be very thought through.

my dad has the last version of the single turbo f-350 super duty and it owns. tows boats, cars, heavy duty construction equipment no problem. the only problem is off the line accel which the new bi-turbo solves. his boss has three diesel fords ranging back to mid 90's and theres hasnt been any major problems with any of em. chevy sucks, just from my personal experience. for example they still use push rods in there vehicles, there four steps behind everyone.
either way when toyota comes out with a diesel it will own all. imo
