Is it SAFE to drive my car?? Please look....
Quick question....
Is it safe to drive my car after I turbo it with no engine management? I have an H22 Integra that I will be running a chipped P28, MSD Digital 6+, either stock injectors or RC 550cc (which Bubba recommends running stock injectors til I get it tuned) and a FPR.
I just need to drive it for a couple days til I get it to a shop and tune w/ AEM EMS. Would retarding my timing help at all? What would you do in my situation?
TIA
-Osman

Im not very knowledgable about turbos since Im still reading up on them and everything
but since its just for a few days cant you just not rev up high enough to go into boost?
If you dont go into boost it should be fine, I think.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Try to keep under half throttle and under 3 grand. Any other inputs?

i ran my car with a d15 dx ecu for a week, do not run it with the 550's unless you have a good map. driving on a base map is ok if you have a wideband. i drove fine with mine although i couldnt pull off of a red light fast. just drive like a granny and youll be ok.

Re: (Crasian)
just keep it outta boost and you will be fine, NO boost equals no more fuel needed i had to do the same thing for one night because i got sent a bad injector

um if you un hook it, there is no way for it to open. thus overboosting. if you could put a constant source of vacuum, that would be better. just keep your foot out of it and youll be fine.

If you use the lightest possibe spring and an FMU you will be fine. You can boost a little bit without to much worry that way if you don't rev it high.

this could work good. i too had that issue a couple months ago. i drove for 2 weeks untuned and HATED IT. my car would stall everyday cause of no aicv. it was also running 11:1 a/f. needless to say, don't drive it if you really have to or just pull the wastegate spring out and use stock injectors.

the fmu might throw off his a/f. if your going this way make sure to have a wideband

Re: (h22boy)
Thanks for all the replys guys! I really appreciate the help.
My A/F ratio is pretty insane as we speak. Its off the charts = lower than 10:1 which is extremely rich. I was thinking about putting on a FMU I have laying around but if I dont boost say more than a few psi than I should be good right? I also have a .5 bar (7.35psi) spring in the wastegate right now.
I was thinking.. cant I unhook one of the intercooler pipes or kinda leak it to atmosphere to help with the 'no boosting'? Or is that bad for the turbo? Any cons to doing so?
Keep the comments coming!

is it internal or external. set the wastegate so there is no way to boost. meaning. taking out the spring, or unhooking the aculator arm from the internal valve so the exhaust can just blow through. if you pull the spring in the extenal it should reveive the pressure, but it will be loud. its safer to have no boost then to run the risk of hitting the gas getting boost and blowing your engine.

That's bad because the turbo will just spin and spin, and you could potentially destroy it.

Re: (inspyral)
The best thing you can do is just take the spring out of the wastegate if its an external. that way when boost starts to come in it will not let it build possitive pressure

Thanks for all the replies guys.
So I guess I'm going to take my wastegate spring out, leave the stock injectors in and drive like a grandma. Thanks for all the help guys. I'll post my numbers on here when I get it tuned! Wish me luck.
