rubber hoses as intercooler pipes???
hey, i was at my uncles shop doing motor work on my project and this 98 gsr turbo rolls up asking for help on his rotors. Well anyways, he popped his hood and i noticed he used radiator like hoses as his intercooler pipes.. and had the oil feed hooked to the side of the head, I thought to myself, cheap home made...?? what do you turbo guys think of this method? or i know i'd never go that route.

Re: rubber hoses as intercooler pipes??? (alfee)
stock DSM hoses are all rubber.. , i thought about taping from the head, instead why not put the oil sender unit on the head, and the hose on the back of the block..
since the head always loose pressure first seems like it would be a better spot to put it?

Those things tear quite easily. Depending wher eyou have it mounted of course! but I've had so many of those things tear when I had it before the IC. Cheap to replace but a bitch to get at with the bumper on!! Also, how much boost cuz I have a feeling if you run too much it'll tear those ****'s apart! haha

I ran the 12psi with no problems at all. How did you get your hoses to tear?? Were there alot of moving parts or something. Cause i'm sure the hoses can hold up to 50psi if they wanted too. Its just the clamp on the I/C piping won't hold and that'll cause it to blow apart but not rip!

That's exactly what happened! haha, it was a tighter bend, and I guess the heat in the summer plus the heat of the charge air and the tighter bend finally got to it. A buddy in the integra forum and f/i forum used it on his first set up too but his kept popping off and finally ripped. Mind you it was right off of the compressor! haha, so yah, I guess it depends where you have them cuz on my first turbo setup, I had it on the cold side of the IC and had no probs what so ever!
