that's what i like to hear. the D16y7 valves are so much larger than the d16a6. i was gonna do this too if i stuck it out with a D series. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Only problem is the Y7 OEM cam is an absolute POS.

This was with the built motor and the Endyn M62 D series kit. Eagle rods, Rollerwave pistons, D16Y7 head with stock cam, Skunk2 Ti retainers, D16Y8 intake valve springs (the Y7 head uses the same springs on both exhaust and intake, whereas the Y8 uses the same Y7 exhaust springs, but stiffer intake springs). Needless to say, it lived a relatively short life (3 weeks) before taking a really hard detonation hit caused by fuel starvation at an autocross which nuked the posted sleeve on #4 cylinder. I still haven't rebuilt it (5 months now).

aww, that's a bummer.
were u running the stock fuel pump?
maybe it's time to upgrade.

And how do you plan on doing that? ZC is more like A6 the Y7 is totally different. Cams DONOT interchange. The y7 sucks, bigger valves dont mean anything there is more to a head than valves.

you 100% sure on your info there?

ive bolted D15b7 (92-95) heads onto a6 blocks. these have larger valve too. and YES, it made more power.

i know there is more to a head than valves... i never said i wouldnt upgrade the valve train with it.

There is a ZC that is Y7 based. I've been told the cam is a direct fit into the USDM Y7 head. I've also been told the Y7 based ZC cam is an improvement over the USDM Y7 cam. How big, or is it for real? I don't know.

I'm running the low pressure 255lph Walbro, and the gas tank has some custom fab'd baffles in it. I guess the power and traction was too much for 1/8 of a tank. Live and learn.

never heard of a stock gas tank not working well enough before.

Early EFs had some trouble using all the gas in the tank under racing conditions. My 89 hatch could not be autocrossed with anything less than 5/8s of a tank, or it would starve on long fast corners or long (6 or more cones) slaloms. Once I put the baffles in the tank, I could run 1/8 of a tank without starvation. That was before the BIG tires and the extra power.

The Usual ZC that everyone refers to (basically A6) cam will not go into a Y7.
And the B7 and A6 have the same size valves.

I am not reffering to the 88-91 based ZC. There is one that is based on the 96-00 engine.

Hey guys, quick question but will I have any troubles bolting in a JRSC from a 97 Civic 4 door (SOHC non-vtec) into my 1989 Civic Si Hatch (SOHC ZC non-vtec)?

I'd just use the same belt, right?

Reason being is I just picked up a virtually complete JRSC in great condition for a killer deal in great condition .

Thanks a lot guys!

Edit: Forgot to ask, but what size diameter is the stock boost pulley on JRSC's? Just want to make sure I buy the right belt .

no, he just changed the snout pulley.

but honestly.... if you shim the pullies to the right spacing, you dont have to change any pulley.

I have been piecing together my JRSC for the last couple of months and I have a couple of questions. Maybe you guys can help, this post has been pretty informative.

Currently I have a y8 in the car. For rules, I have to build up a d16a6 bottom end (no choice on this). I already have a block available and bought some scat rods and I thinking about pistons that will give 10:1 compression. What head should I use? I have a port and polished a6 head that I could put together, or should I stay with the y8 head? What's going to make have the most potential and make the most power?

From what I have read here it seems like the non-vtec heads are best. Just wondering...

TIA

My supercharger should be here today or tommorrow. Thanks to Rexman. I will be blowin a d16z6 w/crower stage 2 turbo cam, crower springs/retainers, new oe valves, and minor headwork. I won't actually be installing it til it warms up and I find a new beater.
