Default Tad's setup

Ok here's my stuff,
d15b vtec
stock longblock
STOCK header
hiflo cat, 2.25-2.5" exhaust
insulating IM gasket
3.4" nose pulley(9.5psi)
shortram
tuned w/ crome

that's about it
made 177whp

honestly, I think w/ header, no cat, and more tuning, it'd make 190
that was a conservative tune, and the timing was retarded a lot.

What's really crazy, is that I picked up that d15b vtec from a local supplier for $225 !!!(just the longblock) i'm kicking myself cuz I should have bought a whole bunch, they had like 7 of em, but u can't find em so cheap anymore.

The motor is still in the car, but it's detuned.
I have the blower pulled apart, trying to port it some.

Oh and pics of the current setup.

225 for longblock = great...170 hp is a real nice jump...especially since your stock..quick question..with a built motor at about 8-9 psi....would 200hp be achievable..?!

if you run higher compression. i think its possible.

cheap power would be to do what i've got,
but throw a good header on, and mill the head some, get urself up to 10.0cr. and a cheap cam, like a regrind or something.
+ good tuning
I think ppl would be suprized.

honestly I think one of the big reasons my motor makes good power is that d15b's have a slight cr bump over other sohc's, and a nicer cam.

very possible.

but your tq figures are kinda low. i think thats because of displacement.

still, a very bad *** setup... you werent afraid to spin that blower faster than all these other sohc guys.

Looks like everyones numbers are all over the board. I think that there are alot of factors into play, like age of engine, strong engine or abused engine. Since most of us are boosting on a stock engine, that is a big factor that I think can be overlooked. I would be interested to see the difference between the d15b and a d16a6 with same setup Joe? Tad get a header and lets brake the mith down. Did you know the amount of miles your d15b had on it before, roughly?

they arent all over the board.

if you look at what PSI people are pumping out... its roughly 10whp per pound of boost. Tad just happened to up his boost above the normal 6 and 8 psi setup range.

im sure he could get some bitchin numbers if he ran 10-11lbs and a header, cam gear, etc.

im mean the tq. Dont forget an lht I have seen #'s from 135-170 with variations in tq. I guess to me they are all over the board because we are talking about a little bit of hourse power and a difference in 5-10 hp is a bit to consider. Thats just me though. Damn wish we could be making 100 hp 100hp per cylinder lol.

LHT would be a little expensive for a SOHC build.... $1300 for a single cam intercooler!

would be nice if someone did it though

i will for sure on my GSR buildup.

think SiRay13 is going to run the lht, thought he told me he either has it done or is in the near future.

i'm hoping that lht will do another promotion like they did a while back, they were asking only like 700 for the intercoolers(nonpolished).

w/ and ic, i'd probably run 10-11psi, and close to 11cr, i mean, why the **** not eh?

hell yeah, maybe if we get a group of us interested and told them we wanted the lht they might consider it. I wonder kind of power that would make?

hmmm, that's a good idea actually,
I bet they would.
I'd go in on it if the price was right.

LHT I run what would be over 11 psi on my setup with the LHT. You will get a PSI drop running through the LHT cause it has a larger plenum than the stock JR manifold. My numbers are kinda low to me (the torque is high), but I am running stock cams and a crappy header. I need a Hytech or Kami to get more power I think. I also got a 65mm TBin the mail today that I am hoping will help too. The S-tube is ported, but that 60mm TB is not doing me any favors I am sure. I know I am not D-series but I use the same blower was you guys.
FYI: Even with the 10 psi I see the intake temps are just over 150 degrees according to the last run datalog on the dyno.

you know, I was wondering the same thing,
because you will have to spin the blower faster to make up for the psi drop, so i'm not sure if you could cause damage to the blower if spun too fast but still only making 10psi or so..

Yeah I will see If i like my setup enough to do the lht, its a chunk of change for me and if its just an additional 10hp I dont think it would be worth it to me.

but you can add more boost, and the blower will be running at cooler levels than if it wasnt ported. so its a win/win.

Here is a response to a similar question answered by joe a few pages back. That might clear up some confusion.
