cooling question for the pros
i have a d16z in a 94 4 door civic, im running a homade turbo setup (t3), any way im having trouble with cooling. when its under boost for any period of time the temp gauge goes up slowley, i understand that the turbo runs hot but is that all that would cause it. its overheated once and blew a hose, i replaced the radiator, hoses and thermostat. and it stays cooler but still heats up under boost mostley when im goin up and down hills. (im only running about 5-6 lbs of boost). help from the pros please.

What size intercooler?
What mix of coolant/water?
Stock radiator?
OEM Fans?
Your temp will rise a bit under boost, especially when going uphill, but it shouldn't be as significant as what I believe you are describing.

hmmm lets see here. A d-series engine with overheating issues...i've never heard of that . Your head is lifting or you have a small leak in your headgasket bro. Get some ARP bolts and maybe a new headgasket. Sorry to be the first one to tell you

yeah, d series are notorious for head lifting under boost, definitely invest in some arp's. also, how close is your dp to your radiator? maybe wrap it with some header/exhaust wrap if it's close to the radiator.

well heres what i found out, if im running boost i n a straight line reving it out really punching it. it seems fine, but if im going up hills even just lightley on the gas it heats up, the highest it goes is mabe just over half way. also im not running an intercooler (only 5 lbs) and my down pipe is not that close to the radiator.

theres guys out there running 11+ psi on stock cooling system. you have to check alot of things. you mention replacing a hose, did you bleed your coolant? also check your thermostat. check your cooling fans. if your reserve bottle is bubbling or overflowing, you have a blown headgasket. another way to check is removing the radiator cap while the engine is off. start the engine and if coolant shoots up through the radiator you have blown headgasket.

it a new thermostat lines are bled and and it dosent boil over and dosent do anything when i start it with cap off. i already checked. im wondering if its from too much hot air from the turbo.

Re: (bigapple427)
well heres the deal ive been searching and what ive come up with is more confusion. i replaced the radiator, hoses and wired my fan on all the time, on my third thermostat. if i set the temp to cold on the heater it heats up, if i leave the heat off and turn the temp to hot it stays cool, even under boost. over flow has never gone over the full mark. ive been reading about head lifting but dont think thats the problem. but your the pros. (honda mec says its not the head gasket he has a boosted h22)
