Default boost my b18a1

Hey there i have a b18a1 currently taken apart ready for a rebuild. Its going to be my boost project. I have all stock internals for now. Im going to run cometic head gasket, ARP headstuds. ARP rod bolts. shot peen the ls rods, and run a block guard. I would like to run 15 lbs. i have a set of new acl main bearings sitting around. what bearings should i use? What would be the best route to go to strengthen up the engine. last thing i want is a fail. some tips and experiences would be helpfull thanks.

1st. dont go by how many LBS of boost you want to run.. Pick a reliable/safe HP goal.

2nd. Read this.
http://www.beesandgoats.com/boostfaq/g2icturbo.html

After you read that, do more research!
theres boosted LS's all over forums everywhere.

If it were me, i would get new rods and pistons since you have the block open already.

I would go and get ur crank polished/micropolished to make sure there's no scaring on the journals, and then have the machine shop measure the journals to get the exact measurements of their size. From there go and do some research on bearing types. Either go OEM honda bearings because they are specifically made for each engine or go buy some ACL race bearings, King bearings. I would either go OEM honda if you have the money or ACL. Just make sure that the clearances will match up with the specs on your crank from the machine shop.

Shotpeening is ok if you're gonna run low boost, but anything over 10 psi I would get forged rods and pistons. I'm running my poorman's type r with a fully built motor on 15 pounds with no problems. VTEC or not, if you don't want it to blow, take the time to save up your money and get the parts that will be strong enough for more than you're wanting to boost. Better be safe than sorry.

If you're never gonna have the money for a full build, then I guess shotpeening would be the next best option.
