Ive managed to sort a set of lexan windows, should hopefully have them in a few weeks.. Also just made the secondary front lip- doesnt make much sense now but it will in a while..
the electronics do make the car very very complicated but to be honest, i enjoy working the bugs out and building the car more than i do racing it.. its designed to make the car easier to drive and use. Especially on the road, it "should" handle like a road car..
You are correct, it is a complicated vehicle though..

Ive decided to dump my diy throttle body conversion..
I was doing some research and found that the audi rs4 v8 has a 76mm throttle body which uses drive by wire.. Knowing how the drive by wire throttles work and finding a cheap one, i decided to try it out..
It arrived today, the holes are almost in the correct place to locate on the hypertune mounts, just slightly off. Ive overbored the throttle body to attempt to make up the room. It just worked, perfect fit now.. Just need some gasket paper and some allen head bolts for the limited clearance..
I have already changed the software on the DBW computer and ordered a h bridge module.. Oddly buying from china a full h bridge module, based on a specific chip i wanted with all the schottky diodes and caps i needed, was cheaper than the same chip alone from my supplier..
Heres some pics..

I am thoroughly impressed with your build. The time, thought and dedication to making your dream come reality is amazing to say the least. I cant wait to see the final product and will continue to watch in awe along the way. Inspirational for sure! In all of my builds and wrenching, this has me the most intrigued and motivated to start my build.

Been rather busy over the last few days, havnt touched the ground lol..
I set aside a few minutes to finish up the drive by wire a bit more, having worked out how the audi throttle works and interfacing it, here is my progress..

This is the initial step, the system is actuating the throttle directly using the h-bridge.. You can see the jitter as it overshoots and hunts around for it..
I realised that the motor is being run at 100% and therefore overshooting, but never achieving the target as it isnt being effectively controlled..

I have done a bit more work in it now. In order to control the speed i wired the enable pins to the spare PWM channel of the PIC. I then wrote an algorithm which takes the difference between the current position and target as a positive integer, scales it and then sets the PWM duty to that. This allows me to alter the seek rate but also diminish as the position reaches the target, this prevents overshooting whilst maintaining the fastest possible seek speed..

Lol sorry i go on alot..
The thing is, ive learned alot from research and looking on forums. Just little bits of information from many peoples projects have really helped me..
I consider it paying back into the community, people might not understand it- and dont need to, just know it works lol.. But some others, maybe like me who find this thread might find the research useful..
Plus this whole build thread is an interesting chronicle of the project from start to finish...

Chris, I think you've gotten to the point with this build that you're going to just build whatever you can imagine and your wife will allow you to spend money on. It's getting to the point where you just need to spend some money on fuel and get the engine to run.

As long as the boss is happy the project goes on, right? I know exactly how that is, my wife stopped my project until I finish everything with school next year. So now everything is on hold, but I'm always planning.

exactly- i couldnt do this without my missus...
she should have stopped me so many times but always let me have my way.. the only stipulation she had was that i make it look presentable, so i have to do that..

hahaha, i already built my wife her custom car a few years ago, but that was also in the middle of my build i have right now, so because of that i am WAY behind, so she has no right to stop me

lol youre a good chap for doing that lol.
on the other hand, without my wife's support i could have never done this, both financially and in effort.. I have to thank her more than anything for putting up with it (me) over the last few years..
The least i could do is finish it to a standard that pleases her. I was more happy watching her drive it when i finished it last time.. Its pretty cool to watch your wife driving your car youve spent so much time on lol..
