AWD EJ2 Build

Re: AWD EJ2 Build
POR does not flatten out. with any paint you will see brush strokes if you're not careful
I was asking why apply POR15 to aluminum, not why you chose the aluminum color. POR stands for Paint Over Rust. Aluminum engine blocks don't rust so why use a rust-preventative paint? That sounds like a lot more work than using an aerosol based engine enamel.

But im really not happy with it, so i started stripping it back to bare metal (hence no pictures), im going to use a basic aerosol enamel for it. Ill get pics up when its done though, hopefully this is one of the only mistakes in this project...

Applied with a brush under the right conditions (temperature mostly) POR-15 will self level perfectly. I have used it extensively, and never had any brush strokes in the finished/cured surface

Happy new year!
Man I feel you on it being too cold, but my damn trunk has been leaking on both of my Hondas
Anyways I can't wait to see the rest of this! What color did you get to redo it with?

Ouch, just makes it worse! I had a cover on the car, it was frozen solid, Ive only just been able to take it off...
I did it with the same colour "aluminium" but a Simoniz rattle can enamel...

Re: AWD EJ2 Build
Thanks chaps..
I would have loved to leave it bear ali, but when i originally put the turbo on the B16, i cleaned it up too. Spent ages getting it spotless.. I was gutted when only a short while later it looked terrible again and was a swine to clean...
My logic for painting it was simply to keep the clean ali look, but make it alot easier to clean off, for example just using a steam cleaner on it every once in a while.. Believe me, id rather have not bothered painting it at all...

Re: AWD EJ2 Build
Hey all
Im currently bored to death..
Im not going to paint the engine until it warms up a bit, i dont want to risk messing it up again..
Ive been finishing up the anti lag computer, the mirror controller and as im sat waiting for bits for both ive started the thermal management unit (just a bit of kit that monitors all the various fluid temperatures and runs fans and pumps).
This is simply a acrylic panel with the voltage regulator, and 4 MOSFETs for the fans. There will be 4 heat sinks attached to those as well - again- when they turn up..

Thanks mate!
I got bored again waiting for my electronics to turn up, so i modified the indicators with my rear twin bulb holders...

Re: AWD EJ2 Build
A little update,
Redesigned the mirror controller, it now has a feature that some modern cars have- itll turn the sidelights on for 30 seconds when the doors are unlocked.. As well as do the mirrors.
Finished wiring up and the circuitry for the als too..

Re: AWD EJ2 Build
Youre absolutely correct.. Hondata offers great antilag for stationary building boost with the throttle nailed.
I wanted throttle off antilag or decelerating antilag. It bypasses the throttle and uses the ecu to switch tables when the throttle is lifted. It also provides antilag at idle with rotational (or cooldown) anti lag.

Re: AWD EJ2 Build
Small update
Finished the anti lag, added a little video of it running, the shift light is simply illustrating its ability to interpret the RPM..
Finished the mirror controller and added some puddle lights to the mirrors, i think they look quite classy and you can hardly see them when theyre not lit..
And i started work on the fan controller for all the separate cooling systems, bearing in mind that this is to be driven as often as possible and i dont want to have to think about cooling .etc
Finished the prototype, and unfortunately there is a glitch in my software.. it seems to be pulsing the fans strangely, something ill need to investigate..
made the rear firewall and trial fitted the naca ducts
