Default Pulling hair out over tranny issue. Wont shift high rpm after new clutch.

To start it off. I have a b18c1/b16 head with a gsr tranny w/itr lsd & CM light weight flywheel. The tranny use to have a very slight grind into third gear but would shift fast with no probs. So I changed to syncromesh. Prob solved. The time came around to be changing the clutch for more power/abuse. So I went with a Competition clutch stage 4 (sprung 6 puck). Out with the old clutch. In with the new. Drove the car around some to break the clutch in and since it isnt my DD I trailered it to the track.

All night long I would miss 2nd gear 2-3 times before I could jam it in, and right after would miss third. I figured its me cause the clutch engaged a lot diff. than the old clutch I had. I also went back and adjusted so it engaged higher off the floor. Last run of the night I blew my pass side axle right off the lauch. So I didnt have a chance to see if the adjustment helped.

Sold my old chassis (civic) got a teg chassis and swapped complete enigine/tranny. Now I am back to the same prob. Car will not shift at high rpm. Its like im locked out of 2nd untill engine speed falls and 3rd is about the same. Its driving me nuts cause all totalled Ive had the trans out about 5 times (3 were in the same day!)

So far I've bled the slave (twice) then replaced it cause it had a slight leak. Pulled the tranny and swapped 2nd and 3rd synchros out with ones I had (test drove and no change) pulled the clutch back off (no damage thats noticeable) and noticed that my flywheel could have 9 bolts instead of 6. So I added the 3 extras (no change) even flushed the fluid to new synchromesh(no change).

Im very frustrated cause I never had a prob with the old clutch as far as shifting fast. Plus me and my boss went through the tranny and inspected everything (he has built plenty of honda tranny's) What is my prob?

Is the clutch defective or is it multiplying probs that were already there(tranny)???

What do you have for engine mounts, shifter bushings ?

Is the drive train moving around very much under load ?

Is the car lowered?

ah.. forgot to add. The car has custom solid motor mounts. Nothing done to shifter. So its the same as with the old clutch and motor mounts were the same as before too. The car is almost stock ride height.

I'd be calling the clutch manufacture in the AM.

Shifter bushings may help. but I can't think they could be that bad to cause this. Bushing kit is like $15.00.

I just keep refering back to "before" cause the car had no known issues. The clutch didnt even have to be replaced I just did it cause I knew I would need it.

I wouldnt know but now that you mention that. I set the stock p30 flywheel and the CM one next to each other and bolted the clutch to it and fit exactly the same cause I wondered if the surfaces were different heights. I couldnt tell a difference... but Im leaning more towards that.

Do you think it would make a diff that I didnt machine the flywheel before I put the new clutch in? I just ruffed it up cause it looked fine..

Im having same exact problem!
Car drives perfectly....
but if u hammer 1st - 2nd.... it'll just bounce off rpms.
And if u quickly slap it into 3rd same thing until vechile spped slows down.
My set-up : Fidanza Flywheel, and L.S.D. Brand Clutch kit (6puck)
Broke clutch in for over 1000 kms.
Like I said... drives pretty good except over 5k shifting from 1-2nd...
Tranny is a gs-R Lsd... no grinds.....

So I ordered a new CC flywheel to match the clutch and it will be in later today, and also found a guy locally that had all the guts from a b16 tranny for sale cheap and I have been looking for a b16 tranny for a while. So Im going to swap all the b16 gears in and install the new flywheel at the same time. Ill let yall know if the problem persists

BTW I did talk to someone at competition clutch and told him I had an aluminum flywheel and he said he had a few ppl already this week complaining of problems and all had aluminum flywheels. So maybe thats it.

Could be too quick of spin-down on the input shaft from the lightened flywheel/clutch disc.

ok so I cant say for sure as to what my problem was cause I swapped all b16 gears in my tranny and installed the new flywheel at the same time but I maintain that it was most likely the flywheel.

Thinking maybe the clutch just didnt like that flywheel.

I have the same problem. Shift smooth in all gears,no grinds when granny shifting but going into higher rpm and speed shifting, it's like hitting a wall. I have to let the rpm drop some then it will go right in. Brand new CMC and sleeve cylinder. Re-bleed the system, adjusted pedal and still no luck. Anyone have this problem on thier car solved, please help us out thanks in advance.
