Replacing friction plate
I'm about to start putting my engine back together after having the piston rings changed. I wanted to know, when installing the clucth, if there was anything wrong with just getting a new friction plate and reusing the old pressure plate? The clutch responded fine the last time that I used it, so I'm assuming that the pressure plate was still working properly. BTW the engine is a 98 b18c1 with about 60,000 miles on it. The engine is completely stock.
The reason I want to know this is more for financial reasons. I wouldn't mind purchasing a complete clutch set, but if I could just replace the friction plate it would save me some money that I could put aside for any other unforseen problems.
I was also planning on purchasing the dealer friction plate, I'm not going to buy aftermarket.

I've just replaced the clutch disk before because I was short on money. As long as the pressure plate has no obvious damage to it and it drove fine before you tore it down you shouldn't have any problems. The pressure plate wears on the fingers that the throwout bearing rides on, but 60,000 miles shouldn't really wear it that much.
I would just replace the whole thing while you have it open.Don't want to open it again.I know you are trying to save money but don't you want to know that you replaced the whole thing and don't have to worry about rippen open the trans for a pressure plate.just do it the first time so you don't have to worry about it.My stock pressure plate ended up with a crack in it at 56,000 in my gsr.Theres alot of heat in there.
Sh*t! Ok I guess I'll look into it, but I guess it's a chance that we take. It's kinda like reusing head bolts. Honda says to never do it, but a lot of people go ahead with it anyway. I'll see what the prices are and make my decision at that point. Thanks for the tip.
