PROBLEM:Strange clank clank clank noise after vtec is engaged
Last week i installed CTR Pinstons on my B16A, it was pretty straight forward. But my mechanic recomended me to change the valve seals on the head. So we took appart completely the valve train. we change the seals, put back everything, adjust the valve clearance and everithing seems to be fine.
I was doing a 500kms breakin and during the the weekend i reached vtec activation point but it did not engaged. Went back to the shop and check the oil, it was kind of low, so we changed it with a thicker one, since the other one was to thin. I used the vtec controller to change the switch over point to 4.5rpms and went to test it again. this time i was engaging but a very weird noise (like something on the valve train was making "clank" randomly). we checked the vtec selenoid, and it seems to be ok.
We are thinking that it might be the oil presure, but we are not sure. We think that is one of the vtec rocker arms, sounds like is the one next to the cam gear on the intake side. Maybe the pin or something.
Any ideas for what it may be?
we are tearing appart the head again to check everithing.

no way, not detonation if it only does it in vtec. sounds like you didnt get the slide pins in correctly when reinstalling the valve train

sounds like its the lost motion assembly that is a part of the vtec system
my buddy had the same problem on his b17

however, in theory, the lost motion assembly would make noise all the time since the middle lobe is always driving the center rocker arm
