machine shops..NJ
i called up this shop in NJ he told me that he could take off and put on my pistion and do my rings for 15$ each. i also asked him about how much to shot peen my rods, he told that i shouldnt do that b/c it serves no purpose, it will only make the rod look good.. he also said that he could not assblem the block. so heres what i am asking. after i get my block from the shop i will be lef with a block with a crank and my rod with my piston.. so i will have to assblem it myself is it hard to do. what about the bearings, should i get new ones?
It is not hard to assemble an engine. Now I am only experienced with domestics--mostly fords--but the basic principle is still there. I dont know what sort of shape your bearings are in now, but while it is torn down you might as well replace them.
Man 1: are you hungry?
Man 2: Yes-how about some rice? j/k

I would get a book on engine building or something to get everything. I wouldn't rely on what intenret people tell you have to assemble your engine. There's alot to it and the best way would be to have someone assist you thats has done it before.

I don't think there is "one" NY times, Engine building 101, bestseller.
Try the library or the book store. Are you just ressembling?
Or a are you building?
Get as many as they will let you take out, or as many as you can afford.
Like what was posted above, the basics are the same, and the knowledge you gain is transferable to other cars, engines, procedures.
Read ALL of them and take the info you NEED.
Don't mean to sound harsh, but that's how "I" learned about cars and engines. Oh yeah and hang out at a shop, with a friendly mechanic. LOL

And your question is?
And your question is?
To qualify my answers: I have only "rebuilt" 2 engines in my life.
And I always had manuals and someone to ask, nearby and in person.
If you feel you are not qualified or don't have anyone to help you. Maybe, you should have someone who IS qualified do it.
That being said. To answer one of your Q's, Yes, it does matter about the bearings. They and their exact placement are EXTREMELY critical to
properly rebuilding an engine.
My advice to you is: Get the correct Helms Honda Service manual for your year and model car. Go to the library and take out some books on general mechanics and engine rebuilding and have at. It's the only way to learn this stuff. By doing it. What's the worst you could? Just do it till you get it right.

since you are not far from me I will recommend you take all your stuff but it into your car and drive it to Superior Automotive it's on Rt130 in Robbinsville just outside allentown, probobly 20 min from you your going to ask for Randy and tell him I sent you, he's a real good engine builder and is reasonably priced. If you go there soon you can see a turbo honda motor he is building for a customer.
