help with axleback removal
Impact wrench. Or stick a regular wrench on there and start whacking it with a BFH. Helps if you have lifetime warranty on the wrench.
what's the difference between an impact and torque wrench? BFH? big expletive hammer? am i supposed to hold one side and wrench the other? is there a correct side to wrench on or does it not matter?
Impact wrench works the same way as if you use a regular wrench and hit it with a hammer. Torque wrench, on the other hand, tightens bolts to a specific torque. Yes, you got the BFH right.
I would start by wrenching on the nut. That way, only the nut will turn instead of the whole bolt which is sitting in the flanges (more friction). Start by not holding the bolt. If it starts turning, then you will have to put another wrench on it to keep it from turning.

doubt an impact will fit up there. If it does it will do the job. Good luck with the BFH. If its not workin the way you want, there are other ways.

I was thinking that and even an extension on that if you need. Leverage is a huge factor. But, then I was thinking...will there be enough room down there to work it. He can even just take the exhaust off of the hangers to drop it low enough for an impact.
Post up when ya got it done and what worked for ya.

It doesn't need leverage... it needs the hit of a impact.
besides, a long breaker bar is just going to twist it all to hell.
so you can put the closed end of a wrench on it, and swing away and probably hurt your knuckles
-or-
In the past I have done the following to get the bolts off.
1.) soak with WD-40 and/or Rust-b-gone or some sort of stuff like that and then soak again... let it sit for 20 minutes each time.
2.) Impact gun
It needs a wrench on side and the impact on the other.
IT WILL FIT I have done it.
an impact swivel socket does make it easier though.

yea, i don't have an impact gun nor do i want to go out and buy one. i think i'm just going to order all the parts that i need and bring it either to honda or a muffler shop. it shouldn't cost much for them to get the bolts off and bolt on a new muffler. can you guys double check to see if i have everything that i need?
the muffler: (i don't see the difference between the first and fourth)

the gasket: (i believe it's the second one)

the bolts:

get some industrial grade screwloose and hose it down i mean half a can so it will penetrate and soak. with that let it soak for a couple of minutes and hit it with a break bar. hope that helps.
PB Blaster works better than WD-40. Get yourself a can of that and spray it on the nut and threads. It'll penetrate like none other. Then put a socket wrench on the nut and put your jack handle (top half) on the socket wrench. Also make sure you put the right size socket on the nut. Don't let the rust fool you into thinking the nut is bigger than it actually is, you'll end up stripping the ever-living **** out of the nut then you'll really hate your life.
i think he is just doing the "axle back" not the cat back. Oh and I dont think the U-Bolt is the problem. I am assuming he wante to seperate it from the connector. Looks like the muffler already broke off.
yea the stock mufflfer broke off. it's supposed to be one whole piece from the axle back but something must have happened. the muffler and the rest of the axle-back piping was connected together not by welding but by that thing that you see in the first picture. now that the muffler is off, i need to take off the rest of the piping in order to install a new axleback. i have work all weekend so i'll get back to you all on monday when i try pb blaster. thanks for the help
what's the difference between a breaker bar and a torque wrench? the breaker bar looks like a ratchet with a long handle and the torque wrench looks like the best of both worlds. it has the long handle and then you'll be able torque bolts on to a certain spec.
