Using a torque wrench
When do I start using it? You guys know how there's sort of a freeplay first, where you can turn things with your fingers? Do I start when I can't tighten it with my hand any more or what? Sorry for the simpe question but all I've been doing is tightening by feel--no stripped threads yet *crosses fingers*. Not for critical parts though, just door bolts and stuff like that. Thanks
I'm not exactly sure what your trying to ask but i'll try to help you out. Obviously the job the torque wrench its to tighten bolts, nuts, etc down with to a certain spec. If your going to torque something down your not going to try to tightenin it by feel as much as you can. Just turn the bolt/nut until its snug then, set the torque wrench and turn the bolt with the wrench until you get the click.
All the torque wrench does is click when you reach the specified foot pounds. You can tighten it up all you want by hand, then use the torque wrench to tighten it to what you need.
Also, when you use the torque wrench, turn it smoothly and evenly until it clicks. If you stop and go or slow way down as you get near the point where it breaks loose, it is not as accurate.
Good luck with your project.

That would be more of a "snap" sound. . .
