EGT Probe Location Q
From many months of reading and searching on this site I have learned the best location for the EGT probe is 2" from the #3 cylinder runner. However, my probe is down at the bottom of the exhaust manifold, about 12" +/- "upstream" of the 02 sensor. My question is; how much of a temperature difference (or correction factor) should I mentally add to what my gauge is reading? i.e. if my EGT gauge reads 1100 degrees (F) what would the temperature be roughly at the correct probe location?
12'' should not be that big of a temp change. I couldent really tell you what the temp chage is. but yes its in the right place and everything. sorry couldent help
where is the best place to mount an egt gauge probe with a turbo? I would assume it would be about half way down the downpipe. Any idea? THanks

true, # 3 will give you the hottest reading...
some actually mount it in the internal WG hole on the turbine flange, on the DP flange...
it's prolly about 500deg celcius lower than the # 3, don;t wuote me on it though

When placing the temperature probe, you want it to measure the exhaust gas, not any residual flame from the cylinder. Thats why you place it as close to the exhaust port as possible, but not close enough to give you an exagerated reading from the flame. 2" from #3
