Don't automatically say 840C b/c we don't know where he put his probe. Remember, its different if he has his probe before the turbo than if he has his probe after the turbo. For example, I have my probe on the downpipe which is after the turbo, but a lot of people put the probe on the manifold before the turbo. The temps are obviously going to be a lot hotter on the manifold than on the downpipe. Where do you have your probe?

Your probe should be 4" after the turbo. This will give you a good average reading of all cylinders, not just 1.

but from what I am told is that you are suppose to put it on the leanest cylinder which is #1. It gives you a more accurate reading. The #1 cylinder is the leanest because it is the furtherest from the fuel line that reaches the fuel rail...

However, the #3 cylinder runs hottest because it gets water warmed by #1 and #2 and it doesnt have water around 7/8 of it like #4.

O O O O <- water flow
4 3 2 1

Yes put it on the number 3 cylinder, that is the cylinder that will run the leanest because of the head cooling, check out the pic at the bottom of the link for an idea of how far to place it back...http://www.maxrev.com/catalog/engine/header.html
