EGT Gauge ?
do you have to tap the EGT gauge into the manifold or can you tap it into the exhaust?
what are the prose and cons of both?
If I have to tap the manifold I will have to drill into cast. how do you tap cast?

put it in the last cylinder to get fuel, it will tell you the highest egt temps because its the leanest runnning cylinder. u can put it on the DP, but in the manifold will give you more accurate readings.

Re: EGT Gauge ? (playAho)
The further away you put it from the optimal spot on the exhaust manifold, the colder readings your going to get. Make sense? The idea of an EGT gauge is to get an idea of what kind of temps are occuring in the combustion chamber and if your not getting accurate readings, then whats the point?

Re: EGT Gauge ? (Muckman)
you want in in cylinder #3 (numbers go right to left)
#3 is the hottest burning cylinder since the coolant enters at 1, is heated by cylinders 1 and 2, then three gets the already heated coolant and has less exterior surface area to dispurse its heat (such as 4 and 1 since they are on the ends).

yes cast manifolds can be tapped, use a very good carbide at least with a lubricant while drilling...i would take it if already off car toa machinest and they will have needed bits and be able to cleanly do it.......bring along the sleeve for the probe...and make sure the probe is the best u can buy......if its a autometeg , they sell a full race probe for i believe 80 bucks or so......to go along with the standard guage......

My autometer EGT gauge instructions say to optimally tap the manifold BEFORE the turbo for the most accurate reading. You can however tap the DP after the turbo but you'll lose about 200* that way.

Funny how everyone has a different reason to why #3 is hottest.
I was told it was hottest because the #2 cylinder fires before the #3. That's why you often get blown head gaskets right where the two cylinder siamese together.

This can easily be solved....
We need to find someone on here that has 4 egt probes. I remember there was a discussion about hooking 4 probes upto the AEM EMS for it to log the temps and a switchable guage....
