Actually, more than likely, all the messing around that was done with the heater core pulled the cable from the speedometer itself.

There is no cable on the speedometer, its all electronic. Your vtec should still work if your vss isn't working as well. Vtec is activated by a pre determined rpm, and vehicle load. I recently had a problem with my VSS plug on top of my tranny, and it was getting a bad connection. After a while of the speedo not working(3-4 min.) it threw a vss cel. The vtec activation worked fine during the vss cel. Check your harness by your vss and vtec pressure switch for a bad ground or damaged/loose wiring. Hopes this helps some.

you should think about getting a helms manual for your car, itll help you a lot with figuring out where to look for when you have problems..... it did for me.

I had the same question, now my computer doesnt only throw that code (17) it also throwes code 23(knock sensor)..i have a 92 civic swapped with a jdm b16a, the wiring harness and ecu are both from a 95 del sol vtec. Do any of these cause my vtec not to work? i also replaced my knock sensor which in fact was messed up, i disconnected the neg side of the battery, but it still throwes the same codes and my vtec wont engage, what else can i do? i check vtec solenoid, oil, and everything..??
