Default VSS + Code 17 = no vtec..

my vss went out i believe, and what leads me to this conclusion is my CEL throwin a 17, but thats not what im wondering... what im wondering is, how can the Speed Sensor have anything to do that would affect the way VTEC works...?? Vtec i thought got its information from the computer..?? Is it cuz if the Speed Sensor doesnt work, ur car doesnt know how fast ur going, therefore vtec doesnt know when to kick in..?? I'm replacing it tomorrow so it should all work by then, but also I was wondering if anyone knows what sensor is it thats directly under the distributor on the JDM SOHC motors that screws into the tranny..?? Thanks..

Default Re: VSS + Code 17 = no vtec.. (JDM_SOHC)

VTEC ONLY OPERATES IF 4 CONDITIONS ARE MET.
ENGINE TEMPERATURE HAS TO BE UP TO RUNNING TEMPERATURE
THE OIL PRESSURE HAS TO BE AT THE RIGHT PRESSURE
THE RPM'S HAVE TO BE AT THE CORRECT RPM
AND THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE ABOVE SOMETHING LIKE 30 km/h OR 20mph
SO YEAH... THE VSS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BEFORE VTEC WILL WORK. I NEED TO FIX MY VSS BUT I'M HAVING NO LUCK. I'VE ORDERED A NEW ONE FROM HONDA.. I'LL FOLLOW UP TO TELL IF IT WORKED OR NOT.
