Default Found exahust leak, TiAL WG users I need your help!!!!

Well after months and months of thinking I had a damaged manifold, after replacing like 2 turbo gaskets that didn't at all look damaged, I finally got around to taking everything apart to find my phantom exahust leak.... 10 mins later and it was in the one place I never looked

As you can see, the gasket used my my wastegate to seal to the manifold is completley blown on 2 sides. Now herein lies my question, the TiAL comes with this beveld ring you insert into the inlet opening which I did. But you'll notice in the 2nd and 3rd pic that the ring still sticks out just a hair from the bottom of the wastegate. I was told this ring is needed to seal the WG to the mani and that the way I did it was correct.. but I now have my suspicions. Does the WG look right to you guys? Just a bad gasket? Mind you it was leaking from day 1 so it was never sealed well, I just never bothered to look at it before today..

VTC- ponders the pain that is F.I.

was there any difference from a good and blown gasket? did it slow your spooling or anything?

The gaskets that come with the Tial wastegate are notorious for blowing out. I'm suprised Tial still hasn't re-vamped the gastkets. If you do a search about this, you'll find everyone recommends using a "Fire-Ring"composite gasket.

I personally am gonna be using these and a lot of people have had good success with them.

Some people don't even use a gasket and just let the carbon build up create a seal, and that little lip on the "beveled piece" prolly helps the seal.

I dont have a gasket between my tial and my mani. I just have that ring. the ring on mine does stick out a little. clean up all the carbon and try putting it on without the gasket. mine works. good luck

the ring sticks out a little so when you tighten down the wastgate it will be pushing the ring up against the wastegate spring and have a tighter seal

Alright well i'm gonna go ahead and try it w/o a gasket. I cleaned up the edges with a razor and cranked it down nice and hard so I'll see how that goes..

I had the same problem. Blew 2 TIAL gaskets already. Then tried it without any gasket and later noticed that it was leaking as it had carbon marks round about the same spot on your pics. No matter how hard I bolt it down it was still leaking a little. I'd even snapped a bolt and later, a stud (this has now caused me 2 months downtime...long story.. ), by tightening it too much.

The firering gasket from turbonetics is pretty good, get one of those.

The ring will sit flush once the w/g is tightened down. As for the gasket, get a firering style one, or if your manifold and w/g mounting surfaces are straight, you m ight not need one at all.

Mine never leaked with the gasket it came with. I used a lot of copper spray on it though.

Well I tried taping the ring in to make it flush but no dice. I went ahead and added some high-temp liquid gasket and let it sit, we'll see how that turns out.

Where do you guys buy the fire ring gasket for the tial?? I may end up needing it afterall

you can't tap the ring in flat, it will go flat once you put the wastegate on the manifold.

just put it on with the ring in there and it will compress up into the wastegate.

fire ring gasket plus copper spray should work well, or have both surfaces milled flat, then use no gasket..

Yup, the same thing happend to me when I used the tial gasket. I don't run the gasket at all, and I do not have any exhaust leaks. The O ring looks fine btw.
