Default Build questions, motor and turbo questions

I'm gonna build up my db2 this winter and have options and questions.
I have a good b18a and b17a, what would be a good piston rod combo for a good price?
How about a good named turbo?
Block gaurds really junk?
I'm not building a full blown drag car but want to have some fun next summer.
I have it tuned on crome now on 8 lbs with the b17, 750 injectors and a walbro.
Runs good but ching chong turbo is smoking and I want to make some more power.
I wanna start ordering parts but don't wanna throw money out somewhere not needed.
Thanks for any input, I appreciate it.

Sense you have some experience and are currently boosted i'd say you have a good head start.

How much power are you looking for?
How healthy are these engines? Are you planning to rebuild one?

A stock block can make good power with a safe tune and be very reliable. in my opinion with the B series once you're using forged pistons and rods you may as well sleeve the block as well which isn't such a "budget" friendly option.

300-350 on stock block on e85
good tubular manifold
57trim, gt30, 5758 etc
decent IC
3" exhaust
1000cc injectors (those 750s will be a tad small)
tuning (chrome could work but it might be nice to go with something you can easily data log with in the future)

Thanks for the input. Both motors are healthy and running strong but I want forged to turn the boost up. Not sure if sleeving will be in my budget as of yet but maybe.
I'm running e-85 on a t3/t4 now. 2.5 inch exhaust which i'll upgrade as with the injectors too.
I'd like at 300-400 at some point.
Recommendations for turbo or piston rod combos?
Thanks for the input

here is my old setup from my turbo DA just to give you a idea if you go with the b17. My take on b16's and b17's vs b18's and b20's is short stroke makes for no torque (obviously) but sleeves and motor overall can take more of a beating vs the b18/b20's r/s ratio especially running E85. My motor never skipped a beat. Also since you are running E85 you should run some high compression pistons in either motor you choose. High compression boost is mucho fun!! I had a db2 I just recently sold and I was gonna do a b17 with nippon ctr pistons and boost on E85, C/R would have been a lil over 12:1 on top of boost:p

You do realize that most if not all piston and rod combo can work with each other. You need to figure out how much compression your comfortable with. As for turbo choice selection, have you decided which to go with? Like a top 3. Do you want mid range power or top range power? Do you want to grow with this new turbo or be set with it?

10 should be good then, I sure didnt wanna go low on compression.
If no machine work is needed other then a hone, just order up a 81mm piston set for the b18a?That is the motor i'll more then liekly build up.
I see all the piston rod combos just wanted to see what people were going with that are on somewhat of a budget.
Turbo, was looking into garett gt30. I'd like it somewhat street able, not all just top end from the huge snail.
Thanks guys this is helping my confusion alot.

Here's a good place to start.
