Default Trim/Inducer/Exducer etc. questions

I think I've finally able to read compressor maps. With that tucked under my belt, I'm trying to figure out which turbo I should really get that will efficiently work with my setup. Thanks to the net I've read several guides on what these specs refer to, but none of them say what that means to me.

My options: http://www.bullseyepower.com/turbos.asp
S256 (4 different inducer/exducer/trim combinations)
S362 (9 different inducer/exducer/trim combinations)

My setup:
2.0L LS Vtec 10.1:1 with head work, CTR cam, 93 octane, hondata

Now, if I try to shoot for 650hp, will it even be usable on the street? I'm wondering if 550hp would be the same case. I want something that will run a good time (with slicks) but still be fun on the street. With that said, should 550 be the limit with 10.1:1 compression? Which combination of inducer/exducer sizes and trims will work for me? How do I decide?

i'll venture to say that 650whp on the street isnt a good idea. you will have no traction making the car no fun. if you could hook, it'd be dangerously fast.

i'm still getting us to 400whp. still a bit scary

Probably just because you don't have a proper suspension/tranny setup. My Integra with a 3076R and about 440 WHP on pump gas would nab traction at the top of 2nd and 3rd for sure on 225 BFG's. GSR trans, quaife LSD, FR traction bars, tein coils, and a proper allignment.

You said you want to run 93 octane. I can tell you right now that 650 WHP ain't happening on 93 octane with a Honda. 400-450 WHP is useable given an adept right foot, and can be lots of fun to mess with bikes.

Okay so the S256 is winning. Now what trim should I get? Do they make a twin scroll S256?

No matter which turbo you choose, they wont make 650whp on 93 octane. I'm sure you'd planned for that already though.

If you're looking for a fun car on the street and at the track, look into the S256 .70ar V-band. That's the same turbo i run and i'm looking for around 450whp at something like 1.4bar. The turbo is capable of over 550whp on a good setup though. It has plenty of room to grow if you need more power at the track.

On the other hand, the S362 is a great turbo. It is larger obviously and will take longer to spool, but that's not to say it can't be used on the street. You have a larger displacement engine than most of us so you should have reasonable spool time. That turbo is capable of the power you have in mind. Another option if all-out power is necessary, is the S366 or S366XL. Either of those turbos should get you to your 650whp goal with the right fuel.

You need to decide what's more important to you...streetability or peak power. If its going to be a weekend warrior, but see a lot of street time, go with the S256 or S258.

Good start for the response. I'll chime in only when the OP gets a little more specific in terms of NEED, not just want for the purpose of the car. the choice of inducer/exducers work around your power and need decision. Then it comes down to only about 2 choices of turbocharger. that turbocharger's characteristics will automatically determine inducer/exducer choice. no need to think you can choose each configuration. It doesn't work that way.

Once you see what purpose you are doing (realistically) then the decision and assistance will be easier.

^^ I agree. I think you're getting way over your head to start with. You should first decide (and tell us) your needs from this turbo. Also, power goals and the complete setup will aide in the decision. Once we know that, the configuration (inducer/exducer choice) will become clear

400HP would satisfy me. E85 isn't even available in my area and race gas is incredibly expensive. Bottom line- it's a daily driver.

Most of its life will be on the street. I want to get the most power out of it without incredible boost lag or making it impossible to drive...

With that said I've used quality components on this build and nothing less. I want to pick a good turbo that puts out what I need. Since I've gone with all this, I'm gonna go BW instead of just another Garret 60 trim because of the extended tips and sheer power.

The motor will transfer power to an LS tranny with a quaife lsd. The car sits on Nitto 205s with a full Tien damper setup.

There ya go.. That's a bit better. You can easily go with the Silver surfer, or Borg-Warner S256 for that particular need. Just realize that even with a quaife, at 400whp, you can still lose traction. Its just the nature of the FWD beast. People have had that same suspension and tire configuration for years, so its nothing that is unique. people hitting the throttle hard in 3rd or 4th gear, will still have that issue.

Sounds like a plan, let me know if you'd like the S256 or need other assistance about the BW line.

Thank you That was the reassurance I needed. I'll be placing an order for a S258 this friday (Thanks Puscifer)
