Default Max power on 93 Q

Im having a little arguement with some friends right now.. Im building a turbo d16 and i have learned 325-350 to the ground is MAX for pump gas(93 here). Thats perfectly OK number for me! But can say a b18-t go for more than 350 on pump?

I read that the max power you can run on a certain octane is due to detonation but im not sure how it all plays out.

Thanks for the help.

sure a b18 can make more than 350whp on pump depending on the setup. but how long it lasts is another issue.

The guys around here always push 93 octane to ~400whp on built b-series vtec motors, then after that they need to really strain the turbo for a little extra hp. By straining, I mean +5psi for +15whp - its the timing retard required that really gets it after that.

I also wouldn't expect a 1.8L dohc to have a higher power ceiling for pump gas than a d16. The d16 has a smaller diameter bore and faster piston speed [in relation to its stroke size]. Because of that, it will spend less time with the mixture at max compression and burns to the sleeves quicker, which both naturally give it less time to cause preignition.
