I recommend if anyone hasn't got theirs ref'd they should. He said they just looked at it and passed it. Barely even checked. And this was in a span of 2 weeks

 

which ref station was this?

 

Can the people that are saying this is all true please post up PROF of this. I had called the ref and he dont know nothing of this new law.

i barred back in sept and failed...high HC readings...
i want to bar: as a "replacement" motor im still a little bit lost.
i wanna clear it up before i keep spending money on this swap and only to find out i need to find a USDM D series...

jdm 94 b16a, with all USDM emissions, USDM 94 ECU, i lucked out and found someone with a usdm full LONG block, ecu at the time...
i passed visual, but not the smog part..

so whats this mean? still OK or ILLEGAL now? sorry if im sounding noob.

 

what did they tell you when you failed? did they give you a deadline by when you need to get it corrected? i've always wondered what happens when someone fails trying to get a motor Barred.

 

theres no deadline, but next time, its just gonna be a smog check, no more visual.well not as dreadful. im sure they'll still check everything but not as specific...

just take it back when u can...schedule it.

"UPDATE" i just got off the phone with Marvin from the usdm. He has nothing in his computer that states this new law. 1800-952-5210..."BUT" he gave me the number to the baring ref and thy say there is a new law. The way i see it is the refs dont want to pass the jdm motor because of the block numbers dont say what engine you have. 1800-622-7733..Now Marvin from the usdm office is the 1 that helps make the new laws dont know what the hell is going on so im going to be talking to some one that is going to look in to this. He said "BS ITS A SCAM IN MY BOOKS BECAUSE THE US MOTORS ARE MADE IN JAPAN SO THY ARE ALL THE SAME. US stamps the number on it after thy get it and puts there smog parts on it. Thats y the usdm motors r not as fast as the JDM. I will keep all of you up to date about talking to the STATE about this. Thy want me to start a petition about this. PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME AND PUT Y U THINK THERE WRONG.

NOT JDM MOTOR UNLESS IT IS A EQUIV TO THE ORIGINAL MOTOR.

THIS NEW SYSTEM WAS IMPLEMENTED BY THE A.R.B. OF CALIFORNIA (IF YOU WANT TO CONTACT ANYONE ABOUT THIS NEW LAW THEY ARE THE PEOPLE TO ASK BECAUSE THEY INSTATED IT)
IT ONLY CAME OUT AS A MEMO AND THATS WHY A LOT OF REF STATION MAY NOT KNOW ANYTHING OR NOT THAT MUCH ABOUT IT YET.

THAT DUMB ASSES CREATE IN CALIFORNIA DUE TO STREET RACING THAT PROBABLY THE REASON WHY THE NEW ADDITION TO THE RULE/LAW WAS ADDED.


THEY ARE NOT SAYING JDM MOTORS ARE NO LONGER TOTALLY ALLOWED, THEY ARE JUST NOT ALLOWED IN VEH. THAT WERE NOT ALREADY EQUIPED WITH IS USDM SISTER MOTOR.

A PETITION WILL NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE OF THE ABOVE STATEMENT.

IN THE END YOU CAN STILL DO WHATEVER MOTOR SWAP YOU WANT IN YOUR VEH. AS LONG AS YOU USE THE OLD LAWS ALREADY STATED AND THE NEW AS IT CAN ONLY BE USDM MOTOR IF THE VEH. WAS NOT ALREADY EQUIPED WITH THAT MOTOR.

This sucks if its forever going to be in effect. Just another reason Im happy I purchased a ruckus to daily drive.

you are not totally screwed

locate a 95 del sol b16a3 bottom end or a 99-01 b16a2 and you'll be just fine.

in fact you can locate a bare bottom b16a2/3 end and place all the b16a parts in inside

I could have done the same thing myself but I figured this would be the best time to go big

b16a2 bottem ends range from 150-300

 

Umm, last time I checked, this was a government by the people, for the people. Laws exist because citizens write them and vote on them. Laws can be voted against, challenged in court, and even overturned.

The best way to overcome this is to start a petition with people's contact info and basically start a movement. Enough people get involved, start rattling cages, and yanking chains, somebody will listen.

It's time Californians stand up and say "NO!" to our over-taxing, over-fining, and over-imposing state and local governments.

 

One more thing, vega Rocks made a very good point. The only thing that would make a JDM motor a higher polluter is because the lack of emmissions equipment equipped to the motor and two other things: timing and compression ratio.

That's it.

 

for anyone who already has a jdm motor, your best option and probably cheapest if you know what you are doing is locate the USDM equiv. bare bottom end and just swap over the crank, pistons, rods etc.

Just make sure you take the bottom end to CHP and make sure its not stolen or anything

 

well i do have a 94 b16a3 full block, i just dont know if its good or not...maybe ill do the bottom end swap..PITA but hell, if thats what it takes..
