Cable tranny with long gears or short gears better?
which transmission is better for a road racing standpoint jdm s1 for a b16 or a usdm ys1 LS and a quiafe. Yes i know the quaife would be good on either but which gearing setup have u all used and liked the best?
thanks, i appreciate any help/advice u will all give me.

Dependent on the track, tire size and the amount of HP carrying you!

the higher the final drive the better for this setup!!!
4.9 final drive with 8300 rpms i bounced the rev limiter at vir.....on the front straight.....136 mphs.....
don't think there are many track where you will get that fast....

you should adapt a 6 speed NSX gearbox so you'll have crazy freeway top end yO!
- um j/k
Anyway I have the cable LS mission on one car now with about the same power and about the same weight. I would like to go upgrade to the 4.7 FD and ITR LSD as one member has however it will be a little noisy ont the freeway when I'm cruising at tone deaf 3500 RPM so I may get the b16 box and use the LS 5th
Some people here mention top speed being reduced and this brings in to focus safety IE at 120 the car feels solid enough but at 140 the damn thing feels like it's going to get airborne so when choosing gearing you may want to figure out what the car itself is capable of
one of my friend has a CRX with a b18c5 and at flat out in 5th it feels like it's gone way over the edge

well i dont think most tracks let u get to top speed easily so im not worried about these long gears then i guess. cause as a noob to the sport ill need to be able to get back to speed after turns which im not the greatest at yet. i dunno. so two for s1 and one for the ys1.
It depends on what tracks you are driving at.
If you shorten your gearing so that you have to make 5 extra shifts a lap, you're wasting time.

so shorter gears may mean more shifting, well i own the s1 right now. was looking into the other. i guess ill just go for an lsd unit and try it that way. thanks for the help.
anybody whos got a lsd unit they are willing to hook me up with.......
haha but really if somebody knows some for a deal lmk
thanks
chris.

I personally think that the LS transmission is terrible. The 2-3 jump is too big, and 5th gear is utterly useless (as was recently discussed in another thread on here somewhere). I would rather go with closer ratios and adjust top speed as necessary with FD ratios and tire heights.
Well, that's my opinion anyway.

Vracer111, who will absolutely have no use for Acura/Honda parts if the vehicle he is interested in pans out this Wednesday...

The YS1 is the way I would go if I were you. The YS1 came in several different models of Integra in 92-93. The one you may want to get is the Japanese YS1 or the rare GSR cable YS1 which has a killer gear ratio in stock form! The YS1 transmissions utilize Hydraulic parts which means you are able to install the 4.78 JDM final drive kit. You cannot do so in an S1(totally different set-up internally). If you decide to stick with the 90-91 integra style(usdm speaking) I would try to get a hold of the J1 trans which has a great gear ratio as well. This will also allow you to keep the same clutch disk if you have already purchased one.
vracer 111 ur tranny is way out of my price range but thanks, down the road id hope to but not now.
yeah id love the jdm ys1 w/lsd or the usdm gsr ys1 but they are hard to find. i dunno hopefully then i can just find an lsd for mine.
