Default YS1 tranny confusion...

yeah so i couldn't really find what i wanted by searching...

basically the way i understand it is that for a hydro tranny,
the YS1 came in the LS B18B (with long gears)
and also came with B16s (with short gears)

is this right?
if so, are there ways of differentiating between the two w/o cracking the case and counting teeth?

also, are B16 LSDs usable in the LS tranny?
thanks for the help!

There is a usdm ys1 that came in LS integras and a jdm ys1 that cam in XSI integras.. The jdm one is short geared and the usdm one is long geared..

Also I know my jdm YS1 uses the same clutch disc that the hydro trannies do but I think the usdm one uses the smaller disc thats for all the other cable trannies..

And the YS1 is a cable tranny, I have never heard of a hydro version of it..

Yeah, me neither.

The 92-93 Integra XSi came with a 170hp/113tq B16 engine and a cable transmission. The YS1 had an LSD option.

Well there is 2 different versions of the YS1 cable tranny.. One of them has gearing like the LS does and the other has insane gearing..

There are three different YS1 Trannsmissions

92-93 USDM LS - Long Gear non LSD
92-93 USDM GSR _ Short Gear Non LSD
JDM Xsi - Short Gear Optional LSD

You can see through the differential on a LSD tranny. There is a Vertical pin that runs through on the non-LSd trannys. The USDM GSR 92-93 tranys are close ratio trannys and are very sought after because it's such a rare thing but again no LSD. As far as telling a Short gear from a long gear without taking it apart you can spin the Input Shaft by hand and place a mark on the Right CV Spline and count how many revolutions it takes the Input Spline to turn the CV cpline once and you can figure it out, but don't ask me to tell you how many or anything like that I'll let you figure that out.

Wow, I didnt know that, I thought there were only 2 versions.. So is the 92-93 gsr and jdm xsi non-lsd the same tranny then?

I know the ys1 that I have is geared really really short, its non-lsd, and all the internals fit perfectly into a hydro LS case.. Also the 3-4 syncros are bigger than the 1-2-5-R syncros..

I have a JDM YS1 non-LSD on my B16A from the 92 XSi Integra. I'm doing 120 km/h at 4250 RPM, so thats about 75 mph. It sucks *** but you've got to love the low piston speeds of the B16A that allow you to be constantly revving that high

You would do well to get a YS1 in one flavor ar another. Internally identical to the 94+ hydro b-series boxes, so parts are easy to get -- and gear swaps possible. Personally, I've got an LS YS1 case with 94 GSR gearset and ITR LSD. Bought it with a bad 3rd and input shaft bearing for $100 and swapped the internals.

I just swapped out the cable YS1 internals into a hydro LS case and it worked perfectly..

how hard is it to do all that...the reason i ask is because my 3-4 synchro is destroyed and i have no 4th gear right now....and lately when i downshift to 3 from 5 it grinds....i wanna rebuild it myself and am wondering if i could do it...im pretty good with mechanical work but with something as vital as a transmission i dont wanna botch it....

I rebuilt the ys1 when it was still in cable form, its pretty easy you just have to know what gear is what so you can put the syncros in the right place..

But is the XSi YS1 tranny better than the SiR Y1 tranny? I'm just wondering what they each top out at. It's great if your gears are short and you've got an LSD installed but what happend when your out of gears and the Y1 is creeping up on you all steady like?
