B16A2 into EJ1 Civic Coupe Error Code Help
Hi there,
We have just finished putting a B16a2 and manual Y21 from an eg9 civic into my
EJ1 (eg shape) civic coupe, and we are getting a few ECU error codes.
We are now using a p30 ecu and the eg9s engine loom which connects to the original plugs on each side of the suspension towers.
Both cars are JDM models (although the coupe is us assembled), the EJ1 is rare in New Zealand and my one was originally a d16a sohc vtec auto.
So if anybody can suggest anything to help or point me in the right direction?
Here they are....
- HEATED 02 SENSOR - We were told the d16a allowed for the correct b series wiring so have just connected the plugs - no additional wiring done. We are using type r integra sensor if that is any help.
- MAP SENSOR - The original d16a had the map sensor included in the engine loom, where as the b16 was mounted on the firewall and wired seperatley. So we ran new wiring (3 wires) from where the d16a harness joins the new b16 loom straight to the map sensor. We have checked the connections and will double check for vaccum leaks shortly. Any other ideas?
- TRACTION CONTROL FOUND ON ECU - The eg9 had TCS, my car doesn't. Will the TCS error code cause a check light to be on constantly (once the other probs are sorted obviously!) as I have heard vtec will not work if check light is on at all?
Thank you very much for any assistance. I am very new to this so please keep explainations simple for my simple brain!!
Thanks again

You can rule out the ITR O2 sensor unless it's defective as basically all 4 wire O2 sensors are the same. Technically the wiring should be plug and play for the sensor as long as the stock engine used a 4 wire O2. Double check the wiring and connections, if you have another 4 wire O2 then try switching them out.

I would still say that the problem is in the wiring but the sensor could be bad (highly unlikely though). Is there any reason that you didn't use the stock D16 engine harness. Since it was a VTEC motor all the wiring is there aside from the knock sensor wiring which might have eliminated some of the wiring issues you are having.

I've never encountered this problem because I've never has an ECU with this feature so I can't help you out with that one.

Hey - thanks for your help.
Re the O2 sensor: the original d16a had a one wire O2 sensor not the 4 wire, but from what we have been told the d16 harness is 'pre wired' so it can still accept the 4 wire too. Is this not the case? I have been told only the base models need the additional wires?
Re the MAP sensor: we checked the wiring connections pretty well, at the moment I'm thinking it may be a vacuum leak but as the car is at a friends I can't check now unfortunatley.
We are using the b16 loom right up to the plugs on each shock tower where the d16 wiring takes over thru to the ecu. We did it that way as the donor engine was still complete with the wiring and we were told it would be easier that way! Hmmm
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

Help!!
Especially the O2 sensor question!
