Guys, motorcycle noob here.

What exactly is a squid? Is it an un-educated rider who doesn't wear the proper gear?

I'm thinking of buying my first street bike, what would you suggest for a beginners bike?

I used to ride dirt bikes back in the day and have ripped around on enduros a few times so the bike idea isn't 100% foreign to me, even though I know a street bike is nothing like a dirt bike.

Would a 600 be over kill for a noob?

Feel free to laugh at my lack of knowledge about this stuff.

 

I like to think of a "squid" more of the personality of the rider moreso than anything. A squid is a cocky, arrogant risk taker who thinks that he/she is invincible. They don't think of the consequences of their actions. Because of this, they often don't bother to wear gear, but that's not why they are squids. It's their attitude.

I'm sure a lot of us have "squided" it out from time to time, aka not wearing all the gear we should, but our (the majority of /26) attitude towards riding is what sets us apart from squids, IMO.

Yeah, Trey DD's the trike and he lets me borrow teh Monster from time to time. He is really protective, ya know.

On a serious note, he literally cried for like 10 minutes when I took him off of the bike and he cried even harder when I took the helmet off. He just turned 2. His first complete sentence was, "I wanna ride the dirtbike." He was referring to me giving him a ride on the KX450f. I set him on the seat and putt around the yard in first gear.....he loves it.
