Default Legit VTEC questions and code 22

I'm just curious and concerned. I have a JDM B18c which means that I have no VTEC pressure switch. However, I have the plug which rywire added to my harness (guess they thought I had a USDM motor, unless they add the plug for future possibilities) and I had no where to plug it into. So I took a sensor off my D15b and connected it to the plug (ECT sensor I think, the one that fits in the oil pressure plug) to make the ecu, a P28, think it was seeing something and that got rid of my code 22. NOW, after a few runs in VTEC i get code 22 popping back up. So, how exactly does the sensor work? Is it just looking for resistance or does it need an actual pressure number? Will a D series vtec solenoid fit on a b series motor? Is there any advantage to not have the pressure switch? If there's an advantage to not using it I guess I can just ground it out at the ECU.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Will

Also, stupid question........any one get a funky smell after engaging VTEC? Kind of like burning carbon.
