Re: what does EG really mean? (HBRIDER)
Eg is the model of a Hatch. A lot of ppl just call them Eg's Im not sure if its a mix up or they just do it but just call yours a EH2 I have a 92 Ex and its a EH9 so I keep it that way

EH2 would be your chasis code, EG is the generation designation. I drive a 97 EX, which means my chasis code is EJ8, but since it was in the sixth generation, 96-00, its an EK Civic.
For each generation, every trim level has its own chasis code, the 1999 EX Civic is an EJ8, but the 1999 SI Civic is an EM1, yet each are still EKs because they belong to the same generation. You can find your chasis code in your VIN, like this:
1HG<U>EJ8</U>248VLXXXXXX

Keep in mind, it's not an official generation designation. It's just what all the fanboi's in the scene have designated each chassis. It's like a shorthand for people who don't know any better.
I use it when selling parts, and that's about it. Most people browsing my local forum are too stupid to know what an "EJ7 Rear Seat" is ....

Re: what does EG really mean? (cln92eg)
eg6, eg9, etc is the term used in japan to identify the car's chassis code.
In usa we call it eg reffering to 92-95 civic, hatch,coupe etc.. because its easier maninly and americans are lazy as hell
just like ek it refers to 96-00 civic hatch,coupe, etc
btw, it has nothing to do with the motor in the car

Re: (cln92eg)
Technically he is right when you take into account the full chassis designation.
JDM examples
EK4=SiRII/B16A
EK9=CTR/B16B
EF3=Si/DOHC ZC
EF9=SiR/B16A
USDM examples
DB7=4DR/B18B
DB8=4DR/B18C
Some of them do share multiple engines though, for example
EH2=USDM 92-95 3 DR CX/DX/VX which is D15B8/D15B7/D15Z1 respectively.
It's just the chassis code per market. You want to be correct on what your car is, just look at the VIN#, it should be the 4th, 5th, and 6th characters on there. If you want to be JDM about it, EF=4th gen civic (88-91), EG=5th gen civic (92-95), EK=6th gen civic (96-00), EP blah blah blah... you get the picture.

True some of the time.
For example, on 6th gen Civics the chassis designation relies heavily on the engine which ORIGINALLY came in the car. You can swap it and it won't change, just like a shell doesn't not have a chassis code all of a sudden.
As Eran said, EG refers to any 5th gen Civic (some use it to mean just a hatch), but it's technically incorrect. The same goes for 6th gens that are called EKs.
True EGs aren't all hatches and true EKs aren't all hatches. EK4s don't just run from '96-'98 and the EK9 isn't a '99-'00 trim either. And we have no EG6 in the US (this is what people commonly call their 5G hatch).
The following are some of the more common (wrong, but assumed) codes used for generations on the whole.
EF = '88-'91 Civic
EG = '92-'95 Civic (sometimes used just for hatches)
EK = '96-'00 Civic (sometimes used just for hatches)
A Honda chassis code IS based on the following:
- Year range / Generation
- Engine literage / Engine type
- Driveline configuration (FWD, RWD, 4WD, AWD)
A Honda chassis code CAN BE based on the following:
- Body style
- Engine code
These are the USDM chassis codes for 5th gen and 6th gen Civics and del Sols.
EG1 = '93-'95 del Sol, 1.5L SOHC (D15B7 = S)
EG2 = '94-'95 del Sol, 1.6L DOHC VTEC (B16A3 = VTEC)
EG2 = '96-'97 del Sol, 1.6L DOHC VTEC (B16A2 = VTEC)
EG8 = '92-'95 Civic 4DR, 1.5L SOHC (D15B7 = DX/LX)
EH2 = '92-'95 Civic 3DR, 1.5L SOHC (D15B7 = DX / D15B8 = CX / D15Z1 = VX)
EH3 = '92-'95 Civic 3DR, 1.6L SOHC VTEC (D16Z6 = Si)
EH6 = '96-'97 del Sol, 1.6L SOHC (D16Y7 = S)
EH6 = '93-'95 del Sol, 1.6L SOHC VTEC (D16Z6 = Si)
EH6 = '96-'97 del Sol, 1.6L SOHC VTEC (D16Y8 = Si)
EH9 = '92-'95 Civic 4DR, 1.6L SOHC VTEC (D16Z6 = EX)
EJ1 = '93-'95 Civic 2DR, 1.6L SOHC VTEC (D16Z6 = EX)
EJ2 = '93-'95 Civic 2DR, 1.5L SOHC (D15B7 = DX)
EJ6 = '96-'00 Civic 2/3/4DR, 1.6L SOHC (D16Y7 = CX/DX/LX)
EJ6 = '99-'00 Civic 4DR, 1.6L SOHC (D16Y7 = DXv aka SE aka VP)
EJ7 = '96-'00 Civic 2DR, 1.6L SOHC VTEC-E (D16Y5 = HX)
EJ8 = '96-'00 Civic 2/4DR, 1.6L SOCH VTEC (D16Y8 = EX)
EM1 = '99-'00 Civic 2DR, 1.6L DOHC VTEC (B16A2 = Si)
EN1 = '98-'00 Civic 4DR, 1.6L SOHC VTEC CNG (D16B5 = GX)
As also mentioned before, you can also find your car's chassis code in your VIN. It will be the fourth, fifth and sixth digits.
