Having vtec problems myself. Was thinking it was my speed sensor but gauges all work fine, I can restart car and vtec will work but it seems like it's missing then goes into limp mode. Put a brand new vtec on it and no changes

X2 - Also speedometer may peg out as if you had over-revved the engine and needle got stuck on the high side of the peg.

CEL on for any reason means limp mode with no VTEC. When you turn key off and back on, the ECU goes back to normal mode until the problem is detected again.

so your saying CEL will allow VTEC to engage? Bc I’m saying a CEL will STOP vtec from engaging...

P2647 HONDA - Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch Circuit High Voltage,

Oil change is fresh. And vtec works goes in and out like it's trying to work but takes longer for it to go into limp mode while it's cold

What do you mean by "goes in and out like its trying to work"? It either works or it doesn't work.
Your solenoid could be dirty or broken.

stin1 is actually correct... minor codes like an emissions related code or an O2 heater circuit code will not keep VTEC from engaging. MAJOR codes like TDC/CKP/CYP, ECT, TPS, or VTEC solenoid/pressure switch will prevent VTEC function.

just went through this too.
bad speed sensor = no vtec or odometer or cruise control.
tried the cheaper manual trans sensors but they are crap.
the $140 standard motor unit from rockauto finally settled down
and stopped glitching and has 3 year warranty.
the denso unit is $200 or so but can be had from japan for $113
