VTEC engagment depends on what?
If I do not have a working VSS(vehicle speed sensor) on my transmission, will VTEC not function properly? I have read that VTEC engagement depends on vehicle speed, engine speed, and oil pressure, as well as a couple other things. My car's speed sensor has been bad for some time now, and I was wondering if this could be hindering VTEC.
Also, at WOT, my car is sputtering and acting like it's not getting the fuel it needs, but only for a couple/few seconds, then it acts fine. I am getting a code 20(electrical load detector).
TIA

if your vss doesnt work the ecu doesnt know how fast you going
so vtec wont work
i think you need to be above 20mph for vtec to work?

wow, all along thinking I had vtec, and I didn't. Kinda funny really. My speed sensor would work every now and then, and when it did, I thought my car was running better than it had been. Thanks for the replies.
Now what could cause my car to be sputtering?

The load detector is going to contribute to no vtec and other problems because when you are at WOT given'er it doesn't know to give the engine more fuel (I think, but don't take my word for it). Get the load detector working and vtec too. Your problems will most likely go away.

the engine load sensor is your MAP sensor. so check it. also, does it sputter at a certain rpm only? like it runs like **** at say 2000rpm but at 2100 or even 2500 its fine? if so its your TPS. good luck fixing it

thanks everyone for the replies. It's mostly sputtering at WOT through any rpm really. I will check the MAP sensor as well as the TPS. Thanks for the help. I hope I can get this worked out.

UPDATE: today, my car won't even stay running. It is sitting at Auto Zone because it keeps dying on me and missing out. Could a bad alternator contribute to this? Someone told me that the ELD code is the alternator.

There is a ELD for the alternator. It's so when you turn on your lights, etc. that the engine will spead up and the alternator will compinsate for the extra needed power. If before when you turned on you headlights and the idle would drop and stay there then it's your alternator. Since your already at Auto Zone, pull the alternator and get them to test it .

Re: (Bond)
I'm about to head to Auto Zone and get my alternator checked. I have a feeling that's not what the problem is though. I'm not having any electrical problems such as light dimming or stuff like that, so I'm just really lost. I don't think fouled plugs would cause it to run then stop, because when it runs, it runs pretty good.

just throwing this out because I had a similar problem with sputtering and not getting enough gas. My car died on the way home a day after the problems started. It ended up being a blown altenator sensor fuse under my dash. 7.5 amps. Replaced it and problems went away. Good luck

Alright, thanks. I'll check that tomorrow when I go by where my car is at. I was actually planning on checking that out today, but I forgot all about it once I got out there.
