This has been going on for a while now, when I'm driving the car i get this weird growling/chattering noise coming from the tranny. Sometimes when I start out its not there but around 3-4k rpms it comes back. All the other gears it does it at any rpm, but when I push the clutch in it goes away. It also chatters when I'm just sitting still in neutral.... I have a 97 ex so if anyone could give me and idea what it might be it would be most appreciated.....

Mine does it too, tranny still seems to operate just fine right?

It could be a bad throwout bearing in the clutch, or I am guessing I may have chipped a tooth on a gear or something and its just enough to make some noise.

YUP FOOKLE IS RIGHT IS A BEARING IN THE CLUTCH I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I HAF STOCK ENGINE, EVERYTIMES U PRESS THE CLUTCH THE SOUND GO AND WHEN U LET IT GO IT COMES BACK.................... MY MECANIK TOLD ME THAT IS BETTER TO CHANGE THE TRANNY.......IS A BITCH MAN...............LATER

I wrote that writeup. And yes that is the problem you are having. You need a new input shaft bearing (or possibly another bearing on the mainshaft)
