tranny whine/noise???please god someone figure this out lol
here's the deal I've had ALL the bearings replaced in my transmission and it still makes these two DISTINCT noises
noise #1-a grinding/churning noise while in neutral with foot OFF the clutch...gets louder as a rev the engine...
noise #2-a loud high pitched whining that gets louder at higher rpm's/speeds in ANY gear....but as soon as I press the clutch the sound is gone....also if i hold down the clutch and put it in other gears it makes the whine sound fora split second when I slam it into the gear...keep in mind the gear is just rolling at 45-50mph with the clutch still in...
P.S. nosie is coming from the tranny on the side where the gears are...also reverse is sometimes a bitch to get into
could it be a pinion gear??? i have NO clue what it is....I've brought it in and replaced all my bearings and it obviously wasn't that

sounds just like the gremlin i have. my noise is more of a chirping but sometimes gets whiny...yeah and when the clutch is half way to all the way down, it is quite. that noise is still around. as of last night, my third gear has been grinding...just going into gear and only after exactly 5k rpm no matter how i shift it .

Sounds like a release bearing noise to me!
Have you replaced the clutch, pressure plate and release bearing when the tranny was out?

i had this problem, with the whine coming from my tranny. so i finally decided to drop it out because it got REALLY REALLY REALLY loud and nasty. here's some pics:
One of myriad metal shavings, this is average size for what came out of the tranny:
Countershaft bearing:
Countershaft:
Countershaft Needle Bearing (the top broken part is what's left of the upper bearing):
Note also on the countershaft picture how the 5th gear is seared into the countershaft. I took it to a machine shop and they told me short of cutting it out, they couldn't get it off. I got the car in July of 2001, it's a 1992 Integra LS. The previous FEMALE owner who knows jack schitt decided to never change/check the tranny oil. When I first changed it after we bought the car (got paranoid, wanted all new fluids in it as soon as i got it), i drained out about, oh, 6 ounces of oil. From a 2.3-quart capacity. So yeah. If your tranny is making a whining noise, GET IT OUT AND FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Otherwise you'll look in your mirror one day and see your transmission all over the road behind you.

Another problem could be, as long as they built the correctly, is the throw out bearing. If it is bad or has slipped off the fork then it will rub on the pressure plate and make that annoying sound. You don't want to know what it looks like if that is the problem and it doesn't get fixed. Try pulling off the release fork boot and see what you can with a flashlight. It's worth a try before you rip everything apart.

does it kick out of fifth gear at all?? mine is doing all the same but when i put it in fifth and just keep the accelerater slighty pressed or try and press it down and hold it it will kick it out of gear.......what about yur sYnchros??? ive been told thats most likely my problem. if it was just coming out of gear i would look at my shifter linkage since i got an issue with mine right now but i get whining too so yeah.
