question about d16z6
i found a hatch and i like it alot, but the only problem is that the motor has 130k miles on it...is this too much milage to be using for a daily driver? is it too old and have too much milage to be beaten on every once in awhile?

IMO a Honda is never too old or high mileaged to be a daily driver.
If you are looking to mod the D16 I would run some tests on it. But for the most part if it fires up and runs good, then 130k is nothing for a Honda provided it was cared for properly.

As long as it was properly maintained, that engine is barely out of puberty
Is some kid selling it or some retiree? Has it already been beaten on? Clutch/timingbelt/water pump replaced? Regular oil changes?
You need to use your own common sense when it comes to factors such as these, but as far as the odometer goes - nothing to worry about.

you'll get another 100 grand out of it easy. Dont buy it with out driving it. Raise the front up and check out the tie rods and the ball joints. Suspension problems can be a nuscense and pricey. It will probably need a new clutch. Also check the brakes. Ya know the usual stuff

I run it hard all the time. These engines are "unbreakable" . If the proper maintanance has been done, your in good shape. They can run awhile.

nothing like giving more info on the car as the thread gets longer. so basically this could have been some ricers car that was beat. and now he is selling it to get a more reliable one? i would drive it and see for yourself.

Re: (SolObsession)
and run compression and leakdown tests just to be ****.
But I would say that it's fine to throw around here and there.

My old hatch (89 si) had 240k on it befroe I swapped it out and that same motor is in a 87 crx si to this day! still runs good and has been beaten on since 195k. Hondas take more abuse than any other engine period!!!!!!

Re: (hondaguyef)
My engine has about 180k miles on it...and I beat the hell out of it. I probobly redline my motor at least 10-15 times a day. My motor doesn't burn oil or anything. This is why I bought my honda...to replace my DSM that kept breaking all the damn time.

Re: (blackeg)
**** my motor was never taken care of properly before I owned it... the guy I bought it from D16Z6racing (it's all in his name) lol had probably changed the oil every 10K miles and maybe added a couple quarts when he decided to check it and saw that there was nothign in there.. but I picked it up with unknown mileage... but with the abuse it had been through... it is still running granted I havent done anything too it because it's just my daily driver... I take it to 7200 RPM maybe once a month if even that... it had a CX tranny so it was not worth it to try and smash... but that mother burns oil like no other... while im replacing the tranny this week I am thinking about replacing the rings also... yay!
