Have you tried adjusting the throttle cable to make sure it's not hung? You can also adjust the idle using a screw on the throttle body.

Check your idle air control valve, also check for holes in your coolant lines and to make sure that they are all properly secure.

May sound funny but, my bro had the same problem, the car would idle at 4k by itself. The problem was an old fuel filter!!!

Maybe he means he just had the engine put into his civic. Instead of bashing him help the guy out. All this talk about failing english, and not knowing what's what on a car doesn't pertain to answering his question. So I know this has been said before but if you aren't going to help him don't post.
