Default jumping speedometer

my friend wrecked his 97 lx. there is not much damage done to it. but now the speedometer jumps wildly when you drive it. even when the car is idling the speedometer reads 90 mph and if you push the brakes it rings out to like 120+ mph. i searched and found nothing about this. whats wrong with it?

right on top of the tranny. it has a harness on it.

either that and make sure your alternator is functioning properly.

i have the same problem, it just popped up recently, i also checked my vss connection, i unplugged it and re-connected it, and later on, it either kept on searching, or didnt move at all

, i also noticed that my check engine light also popped on after awhile everytime i started my car, which i believe should be the vss, any suggestions on what to do from here?

pull out your vss and check the connectors on the plug. I had a vss ruined because of water seepage which cause on of the prongs on the vss to corrode and virtually fall apart.

his car also has a cel on because the white wire was pulled out of the top o2 sensor. the cel pulses brighter and dimer, and so do the lights on the car. is this all because of his o2 sensor

if the electrical equipment is functioning bad, check the alternator. YOU DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR. 5/8 cases, it's a simple diode that burns out. shops suggest replacing the entire alternator, but it's not always the case.
