Default Speedometer problem.

I just recently put in my new clutch and i have a problem. When i shift hard into 3rd my speedometer dies, it just falls to 0. I have to stop and shut the car off and start it again and then its fine. Anyone have any ideas about what it could. I was thinking maybe a bad ground on the tranny or somthing. Thanks

its on the tranny in the back towards the firewall. If u pull ur intake it it should be easy to get to. There are two two small hoses right next to it

oy yea it looks like a sensor

check your grounds too (ie tranny ground, harness ground). make sure they're nice and tight

my speedo did the same thing when my timing belt was about to give way... but mine would go up & down repeatedly... this happened for a couple days... then the timing belt gave out.

the vss, is only held on by one bolt and the bracket to it is very weak, you could have overtighten it or it could have just broke due to stress. You most likely need to pull it out (if its not already just hanging there) and check.

Even if it does look like it's fine pull it out and put it back in making sure you get it in there correctly. Check the connections.
Don't Disconnect the 2 hoses coming out of it.

I pulled it all apart and is it the thing that has like a point coming up and it spins inside the other piece which has a wire coming out of it. Kind of hard to explain but if you know what it looks like u might have an idea. OR if someone had a diagram that would help also. thanks for your help.

i checked the ECU and it is the speed sensor causing the problem. Now where can I get one? I checked at local autozone and they dont have one. Anywhere online i can order one or do I have to get one off another prelude?

check out part #14 see where that bolt goes thru the little triangle type tab, it is very weak the triangle that is, and any stress oh say from... i dunno a hard shift can snap it, then on further hard shifting it pops out of the tranny and then thats why you speedo and trip don't work. if i were you i would reach down and pull on it, and wiggle it, if you have any movement you snapped that bolt. i did on mine and i just pusshed it back down and jammed it in place. some people jb weld it, or tig weld it. good luck

hey man its cool i didn't mean to belittle you, but i think you were thinking along the lines of what gives out a pulse to measure...., the VSS and the distributer both work up in that fauge cluster. its all good, your brain will kick in soon
