The ebay ads say D15 D16. However the 96-00 did not have a 1.5 liter.
Also, the 1.5 and the 1.6 of the 92-95 (more like your JDM 1.5L) is different from the 96-00 1.6's and those covers don't fit properly at all. If I recall one of the bolt holes is over an inch in difference of position.
I think it will take some modification of the cover to get it to work decently but modding the clear cover will also detract from the appearance a fair amount.

I think what everyone is getting at is your better off finding and buying the correct one for your engine. They're not expensive so your not out a lot of money.

There might be one for the B series motors too but that's about it for Honda as far as I know.

Other than personal aesthetic preference... is there a logical/functional purpose for the clear upper timing cover ???

I think the only use is appearance and for those with an adjustable cam gear. I guess you could tell where your mechanical timing is at without removing the cover.

True, but you will still have to remove the cover to adjust the cam gear... or cut it to access the cam gear. If you have to cut a cover, why not simply use the stock one... it fits well.

That's just it though, the clear cover still sits under the valve cover. To remove the timing cover, you would still have to pull the valve cover. However, you could visually inspect the belt and cam gears without removal.

You should just stick to stock, all clear covers over time will distort in color from clear to cloudy yellow like a head light if no worst.

I pulled off the timing valve cover and the timing belt felt a little loose between the two cam gear
