Default cam gear

Hey guys i recently picked up a STR adjustable cam gear, when i tried putting it on my car my Timing belt wasn't quite long enough to fit over the cam gear, i loosened the tensioner and pulled all the slack i could get but it just wouldn't fit. The cam gear says it is for 88-00 civic sohc. I've got a d16z6 in my car. It's out of a 93 civic, Any idea if i need to get a different timing belt? Or is it possible there is a difference in the size of the 96-00? And maybe i have the cam gear for a 96-00? The only thing i could think to do was either try using a timing belt off a 96-00 sohc or get another cam gear.. Any info would be excellent. Thanks

should be the same, if it werent then the diameters would be different. and if that were the case, it will not work because of the way a 4 cycle engine works. match it up to the stock gear and if it is the same, are you trying to snake the gear on without removingthe belt all the way? if so thats a little hard. i find it easier to remove the whole cover and go that way. but if the diameters are the same, i dont know where the problem is.

Hmm... I never thought of taking the belt off further, I'll check and see if the size of the gears are the same. Thanks for the info

Just went out and checked it, the cam gear is definatly slightly larger. I'm wondering if they gave me the wrong cam gear when i ordered it.. Calling them up to check the part # now..
