Emissions Questions
When you go get your car smogged, (NJ BTW). They asked me what engine i had in my car, 1.6 or 1.5. I have a gsr EG btw. I was wondering why they did this. Does each car have a certan limit for emmisions? Like older cars only have 2 have certian levels of nox and such? Is there a difference between the 1.5 and the 1.6 levels? I have 2 get my car inspected and i want 2 tell him the one thats going 2 get me by the easyest.
I already posted this in tech forum, but got nothing.

Think about it of course they put out different emissions that is why they asked you this. I know nothing of the NJ emissions system so I can't tell you what you should do, read up on your local exhaust laws and see what your options are.

Re: Emissions Questions (xerox445)
this is a very good question. I'm going to have to call e-check and ask him. that means if you have a Type R motor in a Hx then you might just be screwed

Hondas are low emissions vehicles.. I've seen H22 civics pass the sniffer test here in Connecticut. Just make sure the engine is running right and you should have no problem passing a 1.8 under the 1.6 limits.
If your car is OBD2 or higher you may run into a problem though.

its a 98 motor in 95 hatch, but its running obd 1 harness and obd1 ecu I think im safe...would it be safe to assume to tell him the 1.6, as the cx/vx are probly crazy low emmisions, huh

Re: Emissions Questions (xerox445)
They should go by the VIN of the car so if it is a 95 it should automatically do the ASM/Sniffer test, where it's run on the dyno. If you want you cheat you can slam the car so that it is too low to be run on the dyno. That way they'll have to do a 2 speed idle test where they do a sniffer test at idle and 2500 rpms.

Re: Emissions Questions (xerox445)
im talking from california experience but when i went to test my car before my 'big' smog test...they used 1.6 specs because they couldn't put my vin number in and expect a gsr my car is a 93 ex....so they just used the stock 1.6 specs for a pretest...
and when i took the 'big' test at the ref station, they measured my car at the same results as a 1.8 dont know if that means anything to you but cali is a biatch...
good luck!

Depends on who's testing, and their mood.
