Default Emissions Questions

When you go get your car smogged, (NJ BTW). They asked me what engine i had in my car, 1.6 or 1.5. I have a gsr EG btw. I was wondering why they did this. Does each car have a certan limit for emmisions? Like older cars only have 2 have certian levels of nox and such? Is there a difference between the 1.5 and the 1.6 levels? I have 2 get my car inspected and i want 2 tell him the one thats going 2 get me by the easyest.

I'm not from NJ but we do PA emissions here and the reason we go by what was originally in the car is because thats what the car originally had and what it originally was designed to meet emissions wise.

So if you have an obd2 car and swap a obd0 engine, you still need all the stuff that the obd 2 engine came with on your obd 0 engine. At least thats how they do it here. They go by the car and what it came with, not by what it has in it.

I know here someone can't just say it came with this engine or that engine. we have ways of finding out. Just tell them the one it originally came with.

the technition will know what motor you have unless he has his head up youre *** and it will probably make no difference on emmisions. different years and classes have different standards but for the same car within the same year the standards most likely will be the same with any motor. by special station he means a referee. if you do any sort of major work such as a motor swap you need to get youre car approved by a referee.
