not all sohc vtecs say "vtec" on the valve cover.
you would need to look at your block id tag and see what your block says.
their is a small square of metal located to the left of your exhaust manifold. its usually pretty dirty, clean it up and it will say something like d16z6 and will have a serial number.
let us know

Its not a sad day. The B16 is a twin cam. If you want to find out if your engine is vtec, look for a vtec solenoid.
Delsol VTEC's are kinda rare and if you had one, you would definitely know.
Your D16 is a VTEC but it is a SOHC vtec.

you have a vtec, its just a sohc vtec. its still better that a d15b. and youre already wired in for vtec so if you decide to do a swap all youll need is a knock sensor wire added to the ecu. i wouldnt be complaining at all.

del sol Si = d16z6 SOHC vtec
del sol VTEC= b16a3 DOHC vtec
2 different trims, 2 different motors, both have vtec

The p28 doesnt call for a knock sensor.
If you swap it, get it tuned.

1.6L SOHC VTEC engines in Civics and del Sols in the US only say VTEC on the valve cover for some certain years.
See this thread for more information and photos.
US del Sols have the following engines stock:
1993-1995 del Sol S - D15B7 (1.5L SOHC non-VTEC - 102 hp / 98 lb-ft)
1993-1995 del Sol Si - D16Z6 (1.6L SOHC VTEC - 125 hp / 106 lb-ft)
1994-1995 del Sol VTEC - B16A3 (1.6L DOHC VTEC - 160 hp / 118 lb-ft)
1996-1997 del Sol S - D16Y7 (1.6L SOHC non-VTEC - 106 hp / 103 lb-ft)
1996-1997 del Sol Si - D16Y8 (1.6L SOHC VTEC - 127 hp / 107 lb-ft)
1996-1997 del Sol VTEC - B16A2 (1.6L DOHC VTEC - 160 hp / 111 lb-ft)
Don't feel too bad about not having a B16A. While del Sol VTECs (the one that come with a DOHC engine stock) are less common and kind of neat because of that, the B16A engines are rather anemic engines. Just look at the specs.

You really didnt know if you had a b16 or not? And no its not, id rather have the SOHC, or something better than a b16 unless it was stock in the car, b16 is really not that big of a upgrade from your engine.
