d16 shift forks
Alright, I have seen numerous times that 92-95 ex/si transmissions had aluminum shift forks, and the 96-00 ex tranny had steel shift forks. Now since the steel forks are stronger, obviously you want a 96-00 tranny. However, I was wondering, could you just swap forks alone, instead of buying a whole tranny, just get the steel fork and use it in you 92-95 trans?

Re: d16 shift forks (piscorpio)
from all the info i've read and heard, you cannot swap forks. Gearing is better on the Z6 tranny, but like you said fork is stronger on Y8 tranny

Curses! Foiled again! Seemed like it would be such a simple thing. Are the z6 trannies really geared better though? I never knew that, I assumed they were the same.

Technically, yes, but you should mention that it is nothing worth grumbling over. The only difference is the Z6 has a 1.900 2nd gear and the Y8 has a 1.909 2nd gear. Everything else is the same. You would never notice the difference. I would rather have the steel shifter forks.

The forksets don't interchange. The little ball bearings for the shift stop notches are in the fork assembly on the 92-95, but in the tranny case on 96-00.
You must remove the check ***** before spliting case or you will lose them! I was quoted $300-350 PER shift fork to be custom made.

Yikes!! Thats more than 3 times the cost of the tranny in many cases. I had a feeling it would not be worthwhile. Thanks for your input mista bone.
