Default change alternator in del sol

At the risk of sounding ridiculously stupid I gotta ask- once the alternator is completely loose how do you get it out of the engine compartment?
Thanks

On the regular Civic you can lower it out the bottom if you have the car lifted up in a way that the front left tire is off the ground. If there is weight on the wheel, the axle will be in the way.

May not work if you have an intermediate shaft. In that case you'd need to take the ball joint off and release the axle from the intermediate bearing.

Much thanks. I knew, or at least hoped, there was some trick to it that I was overlooking.

I’m getting ready to replace mine, it’s a b series del sol with a intermediate shaft. But I really want to remove the alternator without even touching the axle.

I hear you can remove it thru the top by removing the brake master cylinder. But can you really? Are there any other ways?

I'd rather remove the CV axle (actually only detach one end of it) than the brake master cylinder. I have heard of people moving it toward the right side of the car then lifting it out the top after removing the air intake pipe etc. Having a DX myself it was no problem to drop out the bottom.

Jacking the car up with the wheel dangling did not give me enough room to drop the alternator out. I spent quite a bit of time puzzling out how to do it, moving hoses and wires and brackets and finally the master brake cylinder. Might not be the best way but it worked. If you go this route take the brake cylinder off first as even removing the clamps the hold hoses and wires is difficult with the brake cylinder in place. To be honest, I spent more time puzzling it out then biting the bullet and removing bits and pieces.

However I need more adult supervision. Turns out my alternator did not need to be replaced. The pulley on the end of the crankshaft is slipping. I am not familiar{don't have a manual yet} with the crankshaft pulley connection so I am not sure what this indicates. The car runs fine so timing is not effected. Does this problem suggest the crankshaft is ruined?

I really appreciate any thoughts. Have other Del sol's had this problem?

Thanks

The crank pulley has a small steel key, but the important point to holding it on is that the bolt must be very tight. If it has been spinning on the shaft you certainly will need a new pulley and very likely the crankshaft is also messed up.

The bolt is regular right-hand thread, turn counterclockwise to loosen. By far the best way to remove it is with an impact wrench. If using a breaker bar, you'll have to prevent the engine from turning. This is easy on a manual car, shift it to 5 and put screwdriver in the brake rotor(s).

there is also the crank pulley tool, it's a free rental with deposit at many auto parts stores.

but i've always done the screwdriver in the brake rotor thing with no problem.
i usually pull the driver's axle and get the alt out that way but whatever works.
last time just replaced the brush assembly and shoved it back in lol.
