Del sol d16z6 axle help
Changed my clutch at a friend's brother in law's house and had to leave once it got really late, then he decides to put everything back together all sloppily to get the car out of his garage. Drove home, turned a corner and heard pop! Went home, jacked the car up and low and behold, the axle popped out, it wasn't put back on right. So, anyone know any good ways to pop it back in? It's hard. I tried putting it in the hole and pushing it in and no luck.

Re: Del sol d16z6 axle help
b20hatchek is right. When an axle pops part way out while driving the splines inside the diff tend to knarl the splines on the end of the inner joint (the small section of splines about the thicknes of this letter "W" before you get to the circlip).
The easiest way to get the axle back in (if the splines are not messed up) is to take off the wheel, undo the lower ball joint, lift up on the knuckle to keep from banging the lower ball joint against the lower control arm, and (using the weight of the knuckle as a hammer) swing it repeatedly inward toward the transmission until the inner joint is fully seated into the diff.
Two warnings: first make sure you have the circlip on the end of the inner joint still; second don't pull the knuckle too far back away from the transmission or you could pull the inner joint apart. It is possible to put back together & as long as you haven't torn the boot it's fine, but it can be a very big pain in the butt to get back together.

Re: Del sol d16z6 axle help
this "dude" has *****. Sorry. thanks for helping. but, putting it back on. lame as in... even with it on the axle, it was still difficult to push in. a lot of people suggest putting the axle back onto the hub and using that to hit it in, but that doesn't sound right.

looks like the splines are messed up on the end like honda lvr 2000 said... If I remember correctly, the splines after the circlip should look like the ones before it
