Default 93 civic d16z6 motor

here is the basic story,
I want to start adding to my motor and i don't know where to begin. The guy i bought the car from put dc headers, an aem intake (2.5 in) short shifter, cat back, and a racing tach on the car. It is running pretty good i think for being as old as it is. I was wondering if anyone could give me some good starting blocks for getting some more power and speed out of my car. I am new to tuning and the only things i have done before are change the oil and take apart the throttle body so i could fix my engine surging problem. Got that out of the way and now, like i said, i would love to start putting some money into my car but i don't know where to start. I had thought about just doing an engine swap to like an h22a or something but i was hoping to get some outside opinions.

I just read through the post about building a d16z6 motor and i would like to get some more info on building my own turbo, i don't know what a lot of the things your talking about in this post though, could you guys give me some more help?
HF manifold off a old civic, 1st gen dsm turbo, 1st gen dsm 450 injectors, 1st gen dsm BOV, any intercooler ya want, oil lines, chipped ecu (crome, ectune), other misc things do a search on that stuff. you can build a turbo kit for under 800 bones. Prob the most fun you will have in a civic.

by the way, i am a wicked noob so if you could please not abbreviate! that way i will at least be able to google search stuff, lol. I am moving to germany in a couple of months with my car, should i pull the engine out when i get there and try to do like new pistons and rods and stuff or should i just put together that turbo and go from there?

thanx for any advice you could give.

yeah its carroll, anyway, how hard is it for me to replace my pistons and cams? I really am brand new and i don't know anything. I have been trying to learn by reading other peoples threads but the lingo is going way over my head. I would like to do a turbo eventually so what should i put in that will be able to handle boost? everyone keeps saying the d16 is a tough little motor but it will only handle like 12lbs boost normally. Please feel free to call me stupid but at least follow that up with some useable info! Thanx

if you want to go turbo later on down the road get low compression pistons.(better for turbos)I'd do your piston rings at the same time and probably get your block honed.I would get a professional to do this stuff it's not the easiest thing to learn right away gl

I think it all depends on how much you want to spend and how much you know. If you dont know anything i would say just do an engine swap to a GSR or LS-Vtec or any b series. it also depends on how much horsepower you want. If you are trying to go any more than 220-230 HP you'll have to go turbo. But also you probably wont get much more than 220-240 HP on a D16z6 motor turbo setup and you'll be spending way too money. If you want around 250-300 plus HP, do a turbo b series engine. It doesnt matter if you have a Vtec engine ( although they are my favorite ) you can still get 250+ HP on a built turbo b series engine. But if you do decide to build your engine for turbo no matter what engine, take it to someone who builds engines that way you know its done right

this is a thread i found on d-series. I have been looking at that site for a few days now and was thinking this sounded good. 250hp would be awesome, i don't the n/a is going to be good enough as it sounds like they are a bitch to tune right. so would this set up be a good turbo option?
Short Block should be....
-Pistons w/ rings $85
-Pistons pressed on rods $40
-Stock rods $Free
-ACL Bearings $80
-Gasket Kit $85
-Bore and Hone $80
-Check the oil pump for clearance (all it takes is a feeler gauge) -Use the old water pump until it takes a crap

Head should be...
New exhaust valve guides $70
Good 3 angle job $100
Crower 2 cam $250
Stock valve springs $free

Long Block total - $$790 (This is set up with a nice cam too!)

i was thinking that if i get all the parts for the turbo myself, like ebay and shiz that i would be able to work with a budget of like 2-2500. does that sound reasonable? what kind of gains could i be looking at? I do like the fact that n/a is power at the ready instead of waiting for the turbo to spool up and then gettting an as s load of power at certain rpms. What is it like driving a 220hp honda anyway? i have ridden in some porsche and stuff and they are fast as ****. I loved it, but i would be happy with a mustang and camaro killer.

I just found this thread also,
ENGINE: D16Z6
MILAGE: around 10k
MILES SINCE BOOSTED: around 10k
PSI:8-10
TURBO: ching chang T3 .42/.48
DRIVING STYLE: minor aggresive *** hole
MANAGEMENT: hondata S300
HP: unknown
ENGINE MODS: ARP Head Studs, Port and Polish
MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH CURRENT SETUP: none

what would this cost? I am on a government computer so i can't look at ebay or anything. Would this set up work with the parts listed above?

I have also read that helms manuals are the **** and i should get one, is that accurate? or is there something like chiltons that i should be trying to get my grubby little mits on? I am moving to germany in a couple of months and plan on pulling my engine and taking that bithc apart and getting it bored for new piston, rings, crankshaft. I want to get a new cam shaft and a performance pulley and that non sense (am i using the right terms here?) The angle job for the valves sounded like a really good idea from the outside research i did. Thing is, i need to find someone at Ramstein airbase that is in love with hondas too. If anyone knows anybody there, plz let me know

If i were to buy maximum boost by corky bell would i understand it enough to help myself out or would it just be the kind of reading that i would get done with and be scratching my head and think wtf did i just read?
