92 civic si
There is a 92 si for sale for $2500. Its black and has 111,000 miles. I used to know a lot about this model but I forgot a lot of it. What should I look for to make sure its an si (do they come with a tachometer, sunroof, ac, power windows, locks)? Also, what problematic things should I look at, such as rust on the rear quarter panels. Thanks in advance.

they come with sunroofs. Thats the dead give away. Also the engine is a d16z6. Check for rust in the spare tire compartment, a lot of civic seem to have rust there.

They come with everything, which is the problem, they're quite heavy. If you're planning on being competitive, you may want to start with a lighter car. But that's just my opinion, as I own an Si (I didn't plan on modifying it when I bought it ). The price sounds great if it's clean, but the weight is something to consider.

Re: 92 civic si (slowman si)
92 and 93 si's did not come with power windows and power locks or ABS like the 94 and 95 models. They didn't even come with rear speakers. Just make sure it says d16z6 on the block and it has four wheel discs and you'll be straight.
EDIT: They do have a/c, sunroof, power mirrors and power steering

Re: 92 civic si (Boosthead)
Thanks for the quick replies. Everything sounds good. I went to look at the car, it looked pretty clean, had a little rust on the rear quarter panels which had been painted over, nothing too bad tho. Engine sounded good but sounded like it might need a new muffler (I'm planning on getting a full cat-back anyway). The only thing that seemed odd was that it did not have a tach. It did have a sunroof and everything else though. Did 92's not come with a tach or what... Again, thanks for the help.

My best friend has a '92 Si and it comes with power NOTHING. Idunno where these cats are getting these luxuries from. It took a small miracle just to get the power steering working. It's not heavy either. After putting in a stock '95 B18b it ran 15 flat.
It feels slow, and I rape him off the line, but after 2nd gear he walks me pretty bad.

This cat got the luxuries from the factory. If youd didn't get 4-wheel disc brakes, sunroof, cruise, ABS(94+)...then someone removed them or you do not have an Si. Is your VIN EH3??? All Si's are EH3, rest are EH2's.

Actually it IS heavy. The sunroof, disk brakes, rear wiper, etc add a couple of hundred lbs when compared to a CX/VX/DX. A few hundred lbs is very heavy.

Re: 92 civic si (arod15)
As far as no Tach, my 94 EX didnt have a tach. They all come with tachs except mine I guess. lol I swaped the cluster out soon after I bought it.
Only thing I couldl think of is MABYE that person switched the cluster on the SI. Its only a mabye though.
Still sounds like a good deal.

1992 Si:
D16Z6 engine - 125hp, SOHC 16-valve VTEC
Closest geared tranny with 4.25Final Drive (DX has 4.08 and Cx/Vx have 3.25)
Tachometer that reads to 9000rpm (but redlines @ 7200rpm or so)
Manual windows and doorlocks
Cruise control
Power Moonroof with tilt feature and shade
Come in Granada/Flint Black, Milano Red, Captiva Blue, Tahitian/Aztec Green Pearl
14'' steel wheels with covers
Rear wiper
Rear disc brakes
Unpainted mirrors
Vertical striped door trims and seat backs/pads
Light in the hacth area
11.8 gallon gas tank (CX/VX has 10.0 tank)
And about 300lbs. more than any other 1992 CX or VX and about 250lbs. more than any 1992 DX.
I still own a 1992 Si with B16A2 and also own a 1992 CX with a B18C5. I used to have the B18C5 in a different 1992 Si hatch, and since transfering the same engine into the lighter Cx chassis I have never regretted it.
Don't believe it when others say that the Si will have A/C either. It wasn't standard equipment from the factory even though a lot of them do have Honda A/C added by the dealers.
They also did not have a radio standard. My fiancee' bought her 1992 Si in 1998 and it still had the O.E radio block off, foam stickers in the place of speakers, and it still has the antenna block-off plate as well.
All this was, of course, from MEMORY.
